Sippy Cup Transition

Day care told me today that since Thomas (almost 13 months) doesn’t drink his bottles there (1 or 2 ounces and he’s done), I might want to just bring in a container of milk and a sippy cup and start to give him his milk that way. She said he’ll either drink it or he won’t, but since he’s not drinking his milk from the bottle anyway, we might as well start teaching him to use a cup. He does, however, drink a good 6 – 7 ounces of milk from a bottle in the morning (as soon as he wakes up). Do I keep giving that bottle to him for a while since it’s the only one he’s getting any milk from? I’ve already cut out the bedtime bottle. He hasn’t been drinking that either and he’s been fine without it. Then if I don’t give him morning bottle do I give him same amount in a sippy? Put him in the highchair to drink it? I usually hold him in the glider in the morning and he holds his own bottle and drinks it. I’m wondering if I put him in the highchair, will he have the patience to sit there and drink more than a few sips of milk from a cup? Any tips would be appreciated…

Thanks!

Re: Sippy Cup Transition

I would do whatever works. If you want to keep the bottle in the am, def do and let him use sippy's at daycare.
Sooner or later he wont' want the bottle in the am and you could get rid of it.
Milk isn't like formula, it's okay if he doesn't drink alot of it, he's getting majority of his nutrients from food. As long as he's drinking water he's good!

When i first transistioned, dd would only take milk out of a bottle, she'd get one in the am and 1 in the pm, rest of the day was water. Around 18 months, we replaced the bottle with a nuby sippy, and haven't looked back since.

Yes.

Sure, why not?

Try it out and see what happens. Keep trying it until he gets the hang of it. Good luck!
