Sleep schedule experts--can you help me figure THIS one out?

Ok, so you might remember my nap issues from yesterday...

Today, DD woke up at 5:00 to eat, went back to sleep, and got up for the day at 8:20. So I figured she'd be getting ready for a nap around 9:45ish, but I'd be on the lookout for signs that she was tired.

She was completely wide awake and happy while she nursed at 8:20.

Was rubbing her eyes at 8:30, but figured it was because she was still waking up.

We came downstairs, it was about 8:50. I put her in the exersaucer and she started to fuss after about 5 minutes. I also noticed her yawning. I tried putting her up in the crib and she went BALLISTIC. I had some 2nd thoughts that maybe she just didn't want to be in the saucer. Brought her back downstairs.

Finally, when she was still fussing, I put her back in the crib to try for a nap again, and she fell fast asleep!

Just when I thought I was starting to figure her out, she wanted a nap less than an hour after waking up!

Yikes! I feel like I'll never be able to know when she needs to sleep!

Sometimes I think they don't know what they want! Chat Icon

DD does this sometimes too in the morning. For the most part she goes back down for a nap around 9am - she complains LOUDLY, but by the time I get from her room to the kitchen she is usually alseep.

Then there are mornings she wants to go back to sleep right after she eats. I can usually tell before she starts yawning or rubbing her eyes as she is just completely mellow instead of her happy active self.

ALexa does that sometimes. She'll be tired after only being awake for 45 min.

I've STOPPED looking at teh clock and follow her cues. The MINUTE she shows sleepy signs..into teh crib she goes. I don't care if she just got up 15 min ago

Once she is over tired I am screwed.

Here is an example. ON Monday I put her down at 10:30 am she slept until 11:5 am and woke up a WITCH..... I nursed her. SHe was still showing sleepy signs so I put her back in teh crib at 11:40 and she slet until 4 pm Chat Icon

Girl was tired.....

I just follow the cues and go with it.

We have no schedule.

I do NOT do CIO. I am an inconsistent failure so I just do what feels right.

Her sleep habits have gotten much better as she's getting older. It's as though she knows the people and things she loves will still be here when she wakes up. She doesn't fight it as much anymore so when she does, I know she doesn't want to take a nap. I'll wait 30 mins or so and try again.

We are very happy this way Chat Icon

Re: Sleep schedule experts--can you help me figure THIS one out?

My DD usually wakes anywhere between 5:00 and 6:00 am, I guess on average 5:30..

On weekends, however, she often sleeps later (I suppose because no one is moving around getting ready for work) and even if she doesn't sleep in her crib later, she'll fall back asleep with me after her bottle sometimes waking at 7:00 or 7:30.

Either way, she is almost always ready for a nap around 8:30 in the morning. ALWAYS. I don't even pretend that I understand it, but it helps to know she's wired a certain way. Maybe your DD is the same.

Re: Sleep schedule experts--can you help me figure THIS one out?

We are doing CIO, it has been working REALLY well so far--I just don't want to mess it up by putting her down for a nap before she's ready to sleep.

I thought for sure I was jumping the gun this morning, and I don't want to put her down just because she's cranky.

I'm hoping I figure all of this out at some point in the near future! Chat Icon
