Sleep Study??
Ok so my daughter does not sleep good. She is almost 5 and has never slept through the night. Only a few time and that was only because she was sick with a fever. Anyway I think its time we have her evaluated because I feel this affects her. Also when she wakes up she says its because she has to go potty. Habit or excuse?? I cut off drinking by 6:30-7:00. She does go to the bathroom even if its a little. I have her go to the bathroom right before bed lets say 8:30. Then she will wake up anywhere from 11:30 on. Sometimes twice a night before waking for the day. For example last night. She woke at 12:30, 4:15, then I am not sure she even fell asleep, but by 5:15 she wanted to come out of her room. I dont know what to do anymore..Everyone said she would outgrow it but I am honestly just tired, I get angry and then I feel bad. I have tried Melatonin, keeping her up late, putting her to bed early, keeping her busy making her use lots of energy and she still will wake up. Also adding she tosses and turns all night. Has anyone had a study done? Can you please share your experiences and if it showed anything? Thanks so much.

Sleep Study??
i didn't have a sleep study as a kid, but that's pretty much how i slept. went to bed, woke up every couple of hours to use the bathroom, and never slept peacefully. my parents complained i woke them up on average 4x per night until i was 9. (that's when i got cable tv in my room, i had something to do at 2am.) i'm 42 now, and i still sleep like crap every night. i've had sleep studies in the last couple of years. no apnea. but i don't get the right amount of REM sleep either. can't say that a sleep study won't help you, but i can say some people just don't sleep well. as a kid, my pediatrician prescribed benadryl, which was not OTC back then for sleep. my mother would never let me use it though. on a rare occasion that she did, i really did sleep more solidly at night. if you do get her tested and find anything interesting, i would love to know what the doc says. my sleep medicine doc really hasn't got a clue why i don't sleep.

Sleep Study??
My daughter had a sleep study at age 12. It was very easy, but lots and lots of wires were attached to her (lots of her head), which I can see freaking a 5 year old out. I slept there with her, in a recliner that completely lays flat. They make it completely pitch black in the room also, and that can be scary for a little one.
Her results were sort of inconclusive. Her actual diagnosis was upper airway resistance syndrome. She woke up 35 some-odd times during the night. They said this was not enough to be considered sleep apnea or warrant a cpap machine. So there was no treatment. She has anxiety, and I attribute her problems to that.
Both of my kids have always been terrible sleepers. However, the people that say she will outgrow it are probably right. Mine are now 11 and 15 and both of their sleep issues have resolved as long as they stay on a schedule. If I let them sleep in to long, they have trouble sleeping. Puberty does wonders for a kids sleep!

Sleep Study??
My DD never sleeps. She never napped as a baby and never ever slept through the night. We have not done a sleep study because it really does not effect her. We checked with her ped and basically just brushed it off saying that all kids are different and some need less sleep. Whatever lol.
What I did do with my DD is that we made some rules. At bedtime she can only leave her room if she has to go to the bathroom or if she is sick. If she awakes in the middle of the night she can read a book or just relax in her bed. We explained to her that even if she is not tired, her body needs to rest so she has to stay in bed. She has no tv or games in her room because i don't want to stimulate her while she is trying to rest/sleep. She is also not allowed out of her room in the morning until at least 7:00 am. If she wakes up prior to that, she can read a book or play in her room, write in her journal or color. We started this at age 5 and she is now 8 and we still have the same rules.
