Sleeping questions - since there are so many different posts right now
I am getting a little confused with reading everything these peds are telling everyone.
Jack usually goes down to sleep at around 7:45pm. He will sleep until 2:30ish. Will wake for a bottle and then go back down. On great nights he will sleep until about 8:30am. Nights like last - he is up every half hour and just cannot fall asleep. I am praying that this wasn't the norm and he was just out of sorts.
Anyway, my question is this. At what age can I expect him to sleep say from 7:45PM - 7:45AM? At how many mnths does this happen? Am I doing the wrong thing by feeding him in the middle of the night? I just don't want to cause any future bad habits.
I am not expecting him to sleep through yet - but don't want to be the cause for him not sleeping either - if that makes any sense!

At about 3.5 months Logan stopped taking the middle of the night bottle and started sleeping right through.
8:00 - 7:00 every night.

At around 3 1/2 months Emma stopped with a bottle during the night. She sleeps through the night for the most part now. She usually falls asleep around 8 and we wake her fpr a bottle around 11. She will most of the time sleep until about 6. Lately she wakes up crying for a few seconds then falls back asleep. Our dr. told us by 4 months they are able to get through the night with no feeding.

See, but when the drs. say "get through the night" - do they mean from 11p until the morning - or say 8p until the morning? That's what is really confusing me I think.

Honestly, it's different for every baby and just when you think they're sleeping well something will pop (teething, sickness, etc.) that will throw everything off.
I really don't know why Peds are so fixated on how the baby is sleeping, as long as mommy and baby are healthy that's all that matters.

My pediatrician told me...(this was back with the twins)..that most babies wont start sleeping through the night until they are at least 3 months old. Until then they are simply not neurologically able to do that. With that said my eldest daughter was sleeping through the night 8-8 at 2.5 months and the twins were closer to 4 months.

ITA. Some moms tell me their DC sleeps through the night. Yet, the night are 11pm - 7am
That was the same as DS going to bed from 8pm-4am.
Yet, people think DS is not sleeping through the night.
ETA: DS slept twice (Friday night and Saturday night) from 8-8:30pm to 6-6:20am. That was the first time at 3.5 months. Then last night he did again 1am and 4am.

Emma slept from around 8pm to 7am starting at about 2.5 months. Now she goes down around 7pm and wakes up at 7am.

Re: Sleeping questions - since there are so many different posts right now
My ped said that how many hours sleeping through the night is, depends on the baby's age. She said at 5 months, 5 or 6 hours is sleeping through the night. This confuses me, because if DS goes to sleep at 7:30 p.m., and wakes at 1:30 a.m., how that that possibly be sleeping through the night!

The term "sleeping through the night" is used to mean a chunk of approximately 5-6 consecutive hours of sleep, as per several books and peds I spoke with. It's used to refer to a chunk of sleep that many adults can survive on, not the babies, just like our maternity leave, 6 or 8 weeks is for US to recover not to care for the baby. We don't get paid childcare leave per say in this country.
That being said, it totally depends upon the baby. My DS has always been smaller than his twin but he is a thumbsucker has has been sleeping a 12 hour stretch for at least 2 months now. My DD weighs 1 1/2 lbs. momre, is bigger, and physically more advanced in some ways but still wakes for a bottle nearly every night.
Some babies will still wake for a night feeding until 9 months or so.

Re: Sleeping questions - since there are so many different posts right now
Steven slept for 8 hours starting at 4 weeks. But then, at about 4 months started waking once for a bottle. Only at 10 months did he start sleeping a solid 12 hours every night.
ETS: Even when he was waking, he would sleep 7 hours, wake up, then sleep for 3 more hours. I don't think you can expect a baby to sleep for more than 8 hours without getting up before 9 or 10 months. And, if you are the rare person who has that before that time, then you are LUCKY! But if you think about it, waking up once a night at his age is GREAT!

With DD when she wakes up I don't go in until she starts truly fussing- just bordering on crying. Many times, she wakes up, fusses for a minute or two (or five), then settles down and goes back to sleep.

I won't go in there until he starts to cry either. He can fuss for hours.

Re: Sleeping questions - since there are so many different posts right now
Noah has not had a nightime feeding ( at least 9 hours straight , usually more like 10-12) since he was 6 weeks old. SO it is possible.
When he wakes up in the middle of the night, which happens a few times a night, its really just to position himself and if I give him the pacifier, he goes right back to bed.
I have no idea why he is able to sleep this much.
Tonight his schedule was off a bit.
He didnt go to bed till 10pm...but I dont expect him up before 9am and he hasnt eaten since 8:30 ish....
Im not sure honestly why some kids can go without food and others cant.
I wish I could help you sweetie

Re: Sleeping questions - since there are so many different posts right now
DS slept through the night with no wakings one night when he was 4.5 months old. Since I knew he could do it then, the next night when he got up at 3am, I just gave him the pacifier and he immediately rolled over and went back to sleep and has cut out that feeding ever since. I would think, after about 4 months, youcould try and see if you can get him to ge back to sleep without a bottle.

My DD was exactly the same - at 6 weeks (almost to the day) she slept for 9 hours straight - no waking up, no bottle. Since then, every night it's the same, plus, she doesn't need to eat until about an hour and a half after she wakes up! I am very greatful, but I too, have no idea why some do, some don't.

Re: Sleeping questions - since there are so many different posts right now
Paige sleeps from 7 - 6. Sometimes she will wake at 5 and i usually give her a bottle. she did that the other night and she went back to sleep until 730. I feel bad if i try to get her back to sleep without a bottle. When we are hungry (even if its in the middle of the night) we can eat when we want. Not sure if what i do is right or wrong, but im the mommy so i can do what i want.
