Sleeping through the night at 5 weeks?
My DS is 5 weeks old and has been sleeping since 11. He ate last at 10. I just woke up and could not believe what time it was. I went in there to check on him and he is sound asleep. Should I wake him to eat since it has been over 7 hours or do I let him continue sleeping? He has never slept this long at once shot.
ETA: He is formula fed.

Depends on his weight gain rate, but if he is gaining well I'd just say enjoy!

Re: Sleeping through the night at 5 weeks?
Oh Man. Oh well. I woke him at 6 to eat because it meant he skipped one of his usual feedings and that is what the doctor said he may do once he was up to 6 oz. He is a big boy (11 pounds) and gaining great. I guess I could have let him go. I never know what to do. I guess if he does this again I should let him go longer.
Happy to report that as of 6:55 he is back alseep Now back I go! I could get used to this

Re: Sleeping through the night at 5 weeks?
Oh def let him sleep
My doc said after they turn 2 weeks old and are gaining and thriving, no need to wake a sleeping baby to eat, they'll wake up if they're hungry
now don't tell anyone else, don't jinx it

If he is gaining weight just fine, let him sleep and consider yourself truly fortunate!

DONT WAKE HIM.
Noah started sleeping 8-12 hrs at 5 and 1/2 weeks and it continued till maybe 7 months when things got hairy again( see my post) but those few months were bliss!

Re: Sleeping through the night at 5 weeks?
DD was formula fed and slept throught the night when she was 4 or 5 weeks old. I just let her sleep. They wake up when they want to eat.

I had a big DS as well - 16lbs at 10weeks - he also slept great. And at our 2 week appt, my ped told me, after 9 pm, dont wake him. Let him wake you. He will let you know when he is hungry. Also if DS is eating alot at each feeding sometimes its good for them to really empty out their little bellies.

DS slept through the night at 5 weeks. we woke him up the first night because we were afraid something was wrong. Luckily he did the same thing the next night.

Re: Sleeping through the night at 5 weeks?
You are lucky! Enjoy it! My DS is 5 and 1/2 weeks and last night was the first time I got him to sleep 5 straight hours. I was thrilled. I EBF so that, I think, makes a difference.

Re: Sleeping through the night at 5 weeks?
I vote for letting him sleep!
DS is only 2 weeks old (EBF) and this week has slept from 10pm until 5am TWICE and I am ecstatic. Both midwife and pediatrician say if he's gaining weight and getting enough calories during the day to ENJOY THE SLEEPING BABY and not to wake him.
