SLR moms who use M
Do you eventually get the hang of it? With the SLR settings that is? I feel like I need to take notes while taking pics to remember what I did? Does it get easier???? Any tips or suggestions?

This is what I am afraid of but I think I've deleted all the pics I took when playing with the settings myself and then I can't remember what I did if I do get a decent pic. LMAO

It does get easier. I find that the exposure is usually too dark when using Auto. A good way to learn is to put the camera on auto, look at the settings and take a picture. Then, change the settings to Manual, and tweak the settings a little here and there until you think the photo looks better.
It stinks because you will need to change settings if you are in the sun and then go into the shade, etc.
But they do come out so much better!
I'm so used to it now that I rarely need to adjust once i pick my settings. Its amazing how much more you'll notice different light.

It does get easier. For along time, I walked around with a cheat sheet my friend C gave me The more you do it, the more you get the hang of it. And sometimes, the real magic of a photo is in the editing!

Re: SLR moms who use M
I got my camera few weeks ago. I read through the whole manual and tried out each setting as I read about it. I've really just been playing around with it and taking lots of pictures, adjusting the settings until I find a combination that works. When I want to capture an image quickly I put it back on auto, but when I have time to set up a shot then I put it on manual.

Re: SLR moms who use M
I'm taking a lifetime learning class in the fall at Nassau CC that I'm hoping will give me the courage to move away from Auto.
I bought a lens off Summer (SummerLyn) recently and she wrote down a bunch of settings for me to try but I really haven't had a chance yet to play with them.
