Re: Smart phone people beware
Basically, the photos you take with your smartphone are geotagged, meaning that in essence the pictures you take with it that you post online (like on FB) can be tracked so creepers could locate where the pictures were taken.
Ie. you take a cute pic of your kid at home...this picture has a geotag that will enable people to trace where that picture was taken down to the actual address.
Scary.

Agreed. I think it's just the fact that most people are unaware. Not to mention what's the benefit of geotagging a picture? I get the GPS aspect of it but pictures? Meh.
Also, it seems odd that it would be a default setting. I could see being able to activate it if you want, but the fact that it's automatically set to tag doesn't sit very well with me. Personally speaking...

Well, it depends, where were they taken? If it's at a public place, eh, I wouldn't be so worried about those. But the ones you might have taken in your home or someone elses home you might want to consider deleting if your that freaked out.
FTR, I didn't delete any pics but going forward they're not tagged.

Re: Smart phone people beware
I just tried to find the Geotag information on my facebook photos and I cannot find it (even using the Firefox plug-in) so I think perhaps I am safe.

Benefit"s" are to remember where you were when you took a picture.
For example, if you in the mountains or forest and you took this picture of something rare, you know exactly where you were. You may want to go back or share this info.
With all the technology, its easy to take a concept/data and use it for other means which is why they posted this news story.

Ok, I can see that and you're right, where there's new technology, there's someone out there looking to do something not above board with it.
It's a shame really...

Go to your camera, then options, then disable "geotagging" It was already disabled on mine so the default setting might be disabled.
