Are you kidding me?? All you guys are supporting her poison her baby. You say to just try to slow down.. W T F . I cannot believe I'm reading this. You need to quit right away. Do you know what you are doing to your baby? Check this link out. If your going to be a mother you need to grow up.
Thats a bit harsh and rude.. no one is saying it is good .. I am grown up this is really hard..

Re: Smoking and Pregnant
I am not a smoker but my mom and I see how hard it is for her to stop smoking. She smoked with all five of us kids and non of us smoke now and nor do we have an interest in it. We were also born with birth weights ranging from 7.5lbs to 8.5lbs. I think that weaning yourself off the cigerette's is the best way to quit. I think if you cold turkey you could put your body into shock which i dont think is healthy. Someone else had posted about addressing the anxiety issue and I highly agree. You might be resulting to smoking to deal with the anxiety regarding if you are taking meds or not. I think if you see a therapist and talk to him about how deal with daily stresses that cause the anxiety it will help with the quiting of the smoking. I wish you lots of luck!

Re: Smoking and Pregnant
Like someone else mentioned, it actually would be less healthy for you to just quit cold turkey at this point. Wean yourself off the cigarettes as best as you can until you quit. My sister has never had regular periods and she didn't know she was pregnant for three months. In those three months, she did a lot of smoking, drinking and drugs. I am by no means condoning her bahavior, these are just the facts. When she found out she was pregnant, she stopped everything but the smoking. Her Dr. told her 1-2 a day was NOT going to harm her baby. Yes, I think she should have quit at some point, but she didn't and my niece was/is just fine. People smoked for years before knowing it was detrimental to a baby, and the large majority of those babies were fine.

Wow....I thought this website was here as a form of support, not to make you feel badly about yourself !
Luckily the support seems to outweigh the judgemental comments.

Re: Smoking and Pregnant
What Is WRONG here...Is that the post was asking for HELP...She asked for help , advice...
Any one who is nasty, harsh etc, either doesnt understand what its like to give up an addiction, never smoked or has never been stressed to the point of needing medication. If you had the tables would be turned.
I wont comment at all on how I FEEL about you smoking while PG, because well frankly you didnt ask, so Im assuming you dont care, and I dont think anyone reading your post will care....
I will though offer advice , because THATS what you asked for. AND as a mature adult, I know how hard it must have been to come and post this, and how desperate for help you must be.
I can tell you what my Dr recommended when I got PG. She advised me NOT to quit cold turkey...Like someone mentioned the REAL PHYSICAL Side affects can do MAJOR damage to your body. Nicotine speeds up your metabolism and adreneline functions...quitting cold turkey can actually cause a M/C as well..Obviously you wont see this on a QUIT SMOKING website, but its a proven study....IF you quit cold turkey you need to make sure you advise your Dr who can check your blood levels. Many people become anemic and suffer problems from quitting this way.
Of course I have heard from those who have stopped its the easiest way they did it. SO , while there are risks to any method of stopping, to yourself if you do quickly or to your baby if you dont...You just need to weigh the risks as they are FOR YOU and decide whats the EASIEST way. EASIEST is the key to your problem.
My SIL just found out shes PG. Shes down to 3 a day and doing well there , her goal is to go to 2 a day within the month and then 1 and so on...Beats not stopping at all.
DO not let the What ifs make you any more stressed. Your body is going to react badly to it .
SO...we live in a society where fear now replaces the "whatever" attitude of the past ....You have to see that and that its my advice for understanding these posts a little better.
You should seek a counselor to help you. There are a lof of online smoking cessasion programs, or try hyponois...it could help with the anxiety as well.
I know I jumped around, but the half truths and anger here were annoying me...so I hope this was coherent to you.
My choice or what I would do makes no differnece, its not me we are talking about. KNOW the risks and WHAT works best if quitting is what YOU feel you need to do ASAP and you can succeed.

Re: Smoking & Pregnant...UPDATED
Karen - That's excellent! I'm so proud of you. The next couple of days are going to be hard but you can do it. Some of the hard things for me...not stopping to buy cigerettes and not having one with my morning coffee. I would talk to myself and tell myself "you can go another hour without one." and I would keep doing that until it was time for bed. Before I knew it, I had gone 24 hours without one and you will too.
FM if you need anything!!!!

I'm starting to take offense at these comments. The eye rolls and the "MOST of us are here for support" remarks.
I support people all over this board, all the time. I can't support something I strongly disagree with and I don't appreciate the comments being made over and over again.

You do support people all over this board!
No one is asking you to support her habit, but support the fact she is trying to quit... There is no need to judge...and as someone said before She already feels bad...and shes trying to quit...
If your not gonna be there to support and encourage her to quit..but rather to make her feel worse...than why post here at all???

If I feel strongly about something, I talk about it. My post was not directed at her but was about how I feel about smoking while being pregnant. It's an open forum. Not once did I judge her - my post was about what I feel. If it made anyone feel WORSE about the fact that they are PG and smoking, then in my mind, that's a GOOD thing because maybe it will encourage them to STOP now, and not wait.

Re: Smoking & Pregnant...UPDATED
My cousin smoked when she was pregnant and felt no guilt whatsoever....didn't even try to quit...the only thing she was worried about was her husband finding out and she told me to lie if I was ever asked..it put me in a hard position.
Atleast you are trying to quit!
