Snow coming our way...
im hearing that if it snows more then 10 inches the LIRR will be suspended. Who is attempting to make into work tomorrow? Few people at work know that im pregnant so its almost expected that i come in, but if the LIRR is not working then i have to stay home, except i hate using my vacation days for this when i can use them when the baby comes.

Re: Snow coming our way...
Can you work from home? I'm 5 months pregnant with twins and also commute . . .from Ronkonkoma. DD is in daycare and if that is closed either DH or I have to stay home. I don't want to use my maternity leave either, but I might be able to "work from home" if there aren't any other options!

Normally DH and I drive in if the LIRR isn't up and running - But if daycare is closed, I'm not going to make my Dad drive to my house in a foot of snow - I'll stay home.

Re: Snow coming our way...
My company is very slow to post if they are open or closed.
I have to be in at 8 and they usually don't make a decision until 8:45. So who knows!!

Re: Snow coming our way...
I'm going to work from home-unless our office officially "closes for the day"-which is doubtful but would be awesome!
ETA: I work in the city and there's no way in hell I'm trecking my 9 months pregnant bootie in...my boss and HR are fine with it.

Re: Snow coming our way...
I take the LIRR from Ronkonkoma. I'm hoping our office is closed tomorrow so I don't have to deal with the trains if they are running.
If the LIRR is suspended all day will your office make you use a personal day? My office tried that but they ended up giving us back our day since it was out of our control...

I've already told work that I'm reachable at home - which is where I'll be staying all day tomorrow.

Re: Snow coming our way...
even nonpreggo i would not risk my neck for this place - they can take a personal, sick or vacation day from me or even dock me for all i care. it's not worth it to me.
if i don't feel comfortable driving, i will be home whether they close or not.

Re: Snow coming our way...
I hate the idea of taking unnecessary days for this but safety comes first! I just hope we dont keep getting these kind of storms this winter, i will be out of vacation at this rate!

ITA. I hate that I might have to waste another sick day if schools aren't closed....but I don't want to put myself in jeopardy and I'm afraid of being stranded by LIRR.

Re: Snow coming our way...
I don't commute (just take the subway from Brooklyn to lower Manhattan) so chances are I will be trucking it in tomorrow unless, like last time, they have failed to clear any snow and it is up to my knees.

Re: Snow coming our way...
I work in Garden City and live in Huappauge so my trip is about 45 mins and I do not plan on driving.
In recent years they let us work from home, but this year they are being annoying and making us take paid time off so thats whay I will be doing...
Im not going to risk harm to my baby just to go to work...

Re: Snow coming our way...
Since NYC schools are undecided right now, I guess I am going in. Bloomberg will decide at 5am if it is open.
If it is a snow emergency and "no one should travel unless it is necessary", why is he making kids and teachers travel?
