Snow Days
This is for all posters who work FT. With all the last minute snow days, who watches your kids when you need to go to work. If one or both parents can not take off?

Re: Snow Days
ILs but fortunately they are our childcare anyway.
It's rare that DH can't be home though since he works in construction and most of the time, his jobs are outside.
I do know of people who have babysitters lined up for days like this.
Or just use their personal days.

Re: Snow Days
Luckily we are in NYC so we never get snow days but it's either me who stays home or I drive them to my dad and step moms who live close to my job. My ex does not take days except planned PTO/ vaca with them.

Re: Snow Days
ugh, this is a problem for me - it gets stressful trying to figure out what to do. I wind up taking off a lot (and I am PT so I dont have paid personal days so it really stinks), once in awhile my ex will take her for me - very far and few though. COME ON SPRING!!

Re: Snow Days
Our sitter is here for the younger ones so usually she'll watch all of them on a snow day. If the weather's too bad for her to come, DH or I don't work and stay with the kids.

Re: Snow Days
I'm very fortunate that my boss is pretty cool about telling us to work from home if school is closed since so many of us have kids in the same district. If I do need to go it, I have a few options that I can tap into.
They can usually stay with our neighbor who does before/after care for us and a bunch of kids on the block. She's a SAHM and usually doesn't mind keeping the kids the full day.
If she's not available, then the boys will ride the train into the city with DH and my inlaws will pick them up at the train station.
Through work, I also get 10 days of emergency back-up care paid by the company. I've never used it but it's nice to know it's available.
