So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..
I forget about expectant mother parking and parent/child parking spots...if they're not for me, I don't park there. I feel like this is SUCH simple thing to follow the rule on, like it takes MORE energy to break the "rule" of not parking in one of those spots that its counter productive. Why is it SOOO hard to just avoid those spots if they don't pertain to you? Walking a few extra feet (barring any diabetic, banana eating hypotheticals) is not going to kill anyone.

I don't understand the whole concept of those spots anyway. You're too pregnant, swollen, tired, etc to walk through the parking lot, but you're ok to walk through the mall or supermarket?

See I think that's the point. Since u have to walk around the store, the parking spot is close so less walking to the car

I think her response was rude.
I agree with PPs who said it's a courtesy issue. Why be snarky/bitchy about it?
eta: I'm assuming her tone was snarky/bitchy as well.

It is not for anyone to understand or like, or agree with. BRU and other stores put them there as a courtesy to their pregnant customers. Regardless of the law, or your feelings about them, it is just a matter of common courtesy. Nothing more, nothing less.
Why does EVERY nice gesture need a justification? Sometimes, people are just nice to one another just to be nice, not bc they felt it was justified.
What is wrong with some people? Can't people be courteous and kind just for the sake of it?

I find that there are people, and quite a few of them on LIF, who need to nitpick and dissect EVERY.SINGLE.THING. to death because they simply have the right to. It's infuriating, ridiculous, and quite frankly, a gigantic waste of time. I truly wonder how these people function in the real world.

Terrible. I guess I feel this way more so because I'm 7 months preggo
Anyway, yes, the woman was VERY RUDE. Some people do NOT get better with age, clearly.

At my MOST pregnant I would never say that to an older woman. A person around my age male or female yes I would. But I believe in respecting your elders and who knows if she has physical aliments, she's an older lady!

100% Is it a law? Of course not! But, it's common courtesy. I think it's beyond rude to park in those spots if it's not intended for you. Not for nothing, I don't consider someone in their 60's an old lady which is the impression some are giving on this thread.

Re: So a woman in her 60's parks in an expectant mother spot..
I get that it's a courtesy thing, but I didn't even know these existed. And why? Why is there no special "elderly reserved" parking? Though, I suppose "elderly" depends on the person. A woman on my block is 60 and can barely move, while my 89 year old grandmother can run circles around a pregnant woman.
Either way, the response was kinda rude... though I won't lie, I smirked when I read it. Sassy old thing!
ETA: But then again "expectant mother" depends on the person, too. Someone like Jessica Simpson is likely to park there as soon as she pees on a stick.

If i wasn't 9 months pregnant and miserable to the core of my being I would have LOLd right along with her. In my current condition, I would have gotten out of my car showed her my 60 inch waist and told the crazy old bag to move her %ucking car.

The problem with this country is that pregnant women are not as treated as they should be, hence the 6 week maternity that is "given" to us. While I do find the woman's response funny and witty,it was still quite rude...

I actually find it really rude, and its more the comeback...if she would have said sorry, etc I didn't know it was mandatory or even hey give a old lady a break
How would she feel if someone said that to her pregnant daughter
Everyone finds it rude when a person does not give a pregnant lady a seat on the train?
ITA
However, I might also be extra sensitive to things like this because of some family issues going on in my life right now.
I am dealing with someone who is "of age" and thinks that as a result they can say whatever they want and it's hurting a lot of people.
So you know what? I DON'T think age gives people a pass. I think, sometimes, the further people get from the responsibility filled years of child rearing and career building the more rose colored their glasses become.
I think the woman was rude. She was described as in her 60s so she's able bodied according to age. If she is handicapped and needs the spot well then she can get the parking pass.

What you wrote about the elderly pass just struck a chord in me.
Very true, when I think about it (rose colored glasses) I know one retiree who can't even relate to how hard it is being a FtWM with young kids. I think it's because, like you said, they are so far removed from those years.
In short; Good point.

I agree with you. 100%.
It's just a nice courtesy offered and let me tell you, I appreciate getting a nice, close spot especially now in the winter, with a 4 yr old in tow, and being almost 36 weeks pregnant. I appreciate the closer spot for sure.
Would I survive without "pregnant parking"?........... Of course. But it's a nice thing for some stores to do. What's the big deal? Would it kill those who aren't pregnant to just park a few spots over out of consideration?
With regards to this situation, while her comment was witty, in truth, she was being selfish and inconsiderate. It's not a law but the spot wasn't designated for her so she should not have parked there. When I am not pregnant I don't park there nor do I park in spots designated for handicapped, those with small kids IF my DD isn't with me, manager spots, employee of the month spots, etc. It's just rude and inconsiderate of others to just ignore these common courtesies.

The difference would be those parking spots should sit empty until a pregnant woman might need it? And I think pregnant women can still walk..it's not a disability. I think it is a courtesy to offer a pregnant woman a seat on a train..but if I were pregnant, and an older person offered me their seat, I would never take it.
You are right, pregnancy is not a disability, however, why can't the able bodied not pregnant person who also does not have a disability walk the extra yards instead of taking a spot that clearly was not meant for them. We complain about the sense of entitlement that most teenagers have nowadays yet most adults have the same sense of entitlement and feel that all rules of courtesy can be overlooked if it inconveniences them.
While pregnancy is not a disability there are many pregnancy related complications that make walking long distances an unwise or uncomfortable idea. I for one, had preeclampsia with my first pregnancy and then preterm labor with my second. Both times I was on bed rest and only went out on days I had doctors appointments. On those days I would sometimes swing by BRU as I prepared for the baby and those spots were a godsend.
