so DD has a double ear infection
DD woke up sun morning wiht a 102. i had an appointment ofr her today for a well child check up, so didnt take her to ped. well, she had a 103 today, and as per ped- a "rip roaring double ear infection". I feel really bad for not taking her yesterday. she wasnt pulling ears or cranky. jsut hte fever, and refusing to eat. first ear infection for poor baby. anyhow- DB is on omnicef. ped told me it will turn her poops red. did anyone have any other side effects? also- ped wants us back in two weeks for a ear recheck. is that standard for ear infections, or jsut bad ones?
on a side note, at just over 10 months, DD is 29 inches and only 18 pounds. and htis kid eats ALL day. where is the food going? she only put on 5 ounces over the past 2 months. 6 month pants are loose on her. forgot to ask ped if i should be concerned about this.

Re: so DD has a double ear infection
sorry to hear DD has a double ear infection My DD has had way too many. It is normal for Omnicef to turn the poops red. DD didn't have any other side effects from it, however if you don't see in an improvement in 48 hours call your ped. Omnicef never worked for us.
I wouldn't be concerned with the eating and weight gain, she probably has a fast metabolism. I would bring it up for peace of mind, but I'm sure it's nothing.
eta: ear recheck is normal.

Re: so DD has a double ear infection
my son's poop was also red on omnicef. And it didn't work for DS either. The two week checkup is normal for an infection. However, I agree with Charly that if the fever doesn't go down and DD still seems in pain to go back. My doctor won't seen them again until its been 2 full days after just so they can tell what the antibiotic is doing.
Hope she feels better soon!!!

Re: so DD has a double ear infection
My DD never displayed signs of an ear infection, not even a fever. The only thing that changed was her sleep. It was the only time she didn't sleep through the night.
How's her fever? Did it go away?
Augmentin was the only thing that worked for my DD.

no fever when she went to bed. now that you say that your DD woke up at night- shes been waking at night screaming the past few nights, this is a kid that has slept 12 hours since 4 months old. shes cutting 2 teeth- i thought it was the teething, but maybe it was the ear infection brewing

augmentin did the trick.
My son really wasn't too much of a screamer either so it was hard to tell on the pain scale. What I would do then is watch the fever. I'd say usually it'll lower within 48 hours.
ETA: i don't want you to think omnicef is bad. It does work for some children and I would bet that any ped. would give omnicef first before augmentin because augmentin is strong and really harsh on their bellies. Jules, Charly and I just happen to have children who have a bad history of ear infections so we might be extreme cases which is why it doesn't work.

Re: so DD has a double ear infection
Yes, the reaction is different for everyone. Juliette was on Augmentin-which we found out makes her lactose intolerant-, Amoxicillin, another one that starts with a C and Omnicef and after a year of fluid in her ear, omnicef finally did the trick.
Juliiette's were cronic though. She may have been resistant to the amoxicillin by the time I got her to an ETN.
