So disgusted with the vaccine distribution
My elderly parents, one with an underlying condition, can’t get an appointment. Meanwhile healthy young teachers in their 20’s and 30’s can get it. Wasn’t it just shown it’s not spreading in schools??? This vaccine doesn’t prevent you fully from getting covid, it helps lessen the effects if you get it....which the elderly and those with underlying conditions NEED.
If I see one more of my healthy friends post their vaccine card I’m going to lose it!!
My brother in law, a teacher, was eligible and decided not to because he feels others NEED it.
Think twice before you brag on Facebook that you got the vaccine. You don’t look like a hero.

Re: So disgusted with the vaccine distribution
I agree, I think it is disgusting. The whole roll out, chaotic mess of scheduling, stupid people. Sorry you have to deal with that. Idk why after a year, we can’t get one thing right with this virus. Hopefully the vaccines supersedes all expectations and we got that right, finally!
I hope they get appointments soon. Are all states a mess? I’m not sure about Nj, can people go to another state to get the virus? But I’m sure we are mess here too, they were already delayed a week for elderly patients because they didn’t submit paperwork in time. Lame!

Re: So disgusted with the vaccine distribution
I agree with you 100% The state really dropped the ball, as usual, on handling something super important. It should 100% have been done by age. After every single person 75 and over who wanted the vaccine got it, then they should have gone on to other groups.

And I’m not picking on teachers, it’s just that most of my friends and family are teachers and it’s clogging my newsfeed. I’m just beyond frustrated and disgusted.
And they’re old, they can’t work technology so here I am spending another day trying to get them appointments.

I don't get the attention seeking social media posting. You got the shot, good for you, yay. I don't need to see it on social media. What do you want? A medal? A like? I don't post when I get my gyno exam. Yay! I got a pap smear!!

So disgusted with the vaccine distribution
I got mine last week and feel awful about it. I was all ready to make an appointment for my 92-year-old grandmother right when the appointments opened up. She lives by herself in the Bronx and is in good health. All of the locations were far from her and in areas of the Bronx that she doesn’t want to go to. I didn’t make an appointment for and figured it would open up. Now everything is taken up. I may feel trapped to some degree in my house but she really is. I even want to scream at my friends frustration over their parents in their 60s not getting their vaccine.

Well they post it and then about twenty of their friends post how excited they are because they get to go next week to get theirs!
But I’m sure cuomo will write a sequel to his book on his perfectly executed vaccine rollout.

Re: So disgusted with the vaccine distribution
I agree with you for the most part (I have elderly parents with conditions), but teachers are kind of front line workers. I don’t know any facts about it spreading in schools, so no comment there. I don’t know what the right answer is, really, but I am angry.
The thing that really pisses me off is they included 1b and now they can’t fulfill that. The whole trying to get an appointment is not elderly friendly.

I agree 100%. Technically, I'm eligible because I work for NYCT. But, I'm working from home 4 out of 5 days. I figure I'll let the people who deal with the public get it first. I can wait.

I often wonder what we did before social media. I mean how did anyone survive without knowing what someone ate for lunch, what their steak dinner looked like, when they had a medical procedure, when they were in the ER, how busy they were today or what their very important opinion was on important social and political issues? How did anyone function without constant likes and approvals from their friends and family and distance acquaintances?
LOOK AT ME!!!!!

And I can see the other side. At the time you got it you don’t feel guilty because you assume it’s available because that is what we were all told. It’s no fault of your own. You are entitled to it. We were lied to.
But fast forward to this week and now it’s a problem. They need to fix it.
And keep it off social media, it doesn’t belong there.

I get what you're saying but anyone that got it already likely got an appointment on Monday before it was open to 65+. Also, I think some people posting about it are trying to normalize and instill confidence in getting the vaccine. I still hear from people all the time that they are eligible but don't know if they want to get it.

You should!! Annual Pap smears are very important and highly neglected. We should start a movement #IgotPapped!

So disgusted with the vaccine distribution
There are a lot of people in my area annoyed that it wasn't easier for seniors to schedule - many aren't tech savvy and that was pretty much the only option.
I don't think they should've changed the group to include 65+ before they got it under control for the existing 1B (and my parents and inlaws are 74 - so I don't benefit from them not changing).
There are people in our area who are volunteering to help seniors sign up - but now there's nowhere to sign up... Hopefully things magically get better next week since they can't blame Trump anymore for the fiasco.

Re: So disgusted with the vaccine distribution
I just think you can’t expect perfection.
There is way too short of a supply. But hopefully we will all be able to get it in the coming months.
We have a family member turning 95 and several with medical issues. They can’t get appts either. I get it, but have some patience. When they restricted the groups too much there was vaccine wasted which isn’t ok either. There no way to do this to make everyone happy.

I can’t fault anyone for getting something they are entitled to. I’m just frustrated and venting. One of my friends is mid 30’s and teaches in a school that is remote! She proudly posted her photo yesterday as I spent the day trying to get 3 senior citizens appointments.

I agree with this. I think they added in too big of a new group eligible and now everyone has expectations that are impossible to meet.

So disgusted with the vaccine distribution
The real issue is there are 7M people eligible and New York is supposed to get 300k shots a week. Everyone eligible cannot get an appointment on day one. I get that there was frustration about those shots not being given fast enough and wanting to do everything they could to get them into people quickly but it's been beyond frustrating.

Basically - the people who first got the vaccine (medical professionals) were strongly encouraged by their employers to post pics on social media to show their friends they got it to try to convince everyone to do the same. They had all of these props and such set up... My friend is a nurse in NYC (without social media) and was telling me this.
I think the newly vaccinated are just following suit.

i feel awful my 80 year old parents cant get an appt yet, but I don't blame the young teachers on my feed. I'm celebrating with them. also the , look its ok guys, I'm doing it too - that could help the weary.

Maybe I'm just more of a private person and don't need to share my every move with the world. And in terms of encouraging others, if I am not comfortable with the vaccine after doing research and speaking to my doctor, Karen getting it an posting on Facebook isn't going to suddenly change my mind.

I’d rather be celebrating 0 deaths. No new hospital admissions. Statistically speaking, those are mostly the elderly.
We know this vaccine isn’t going to eliminate covid. But it’s supposed to help lighten the load at the hospitals. That’s the goal right now. So wouldn’t you go after your target market....the elderly?? Not young healthy people who, according to statistics and science, don’t end up in the hospitals. And even if they are vaccinated they can still spread it to those elderly who aren’t vaccinated.
It’s like a budget right now. We knew what we were getting and overspent.
