So, DS is allergic to eggs. What the heck can he eat now?
I took him to the allergist today because I suspected he had an egg allergy. He's vomited a bunch of times after eating, and it seemed the common ingredient was eggs. A skin test confirmed my suspicion. She said it wasn't a severe reaction, and it is more to the whites than the yolk. But she said to avoid all foods with eggs to be safe. It seems so many things have eggs. I also forgot to ask if we have to stay away from the stuff that says made on shared equipment with eggs, or processed in the same facility as eggs.

Just a word of advice - don't give the flu shot. My bro is allergic to eggs and never got it!

DS has an egg allergy too! I give him absolutely nothing with eggs in it. I watch labels like a hawk! Its amazing how so many things have eggs in it!!! The vomiting is SO scary!!! It hasn't been so bad he can still eat a lot of stuff! There's a few books out there with recipes for people with different allergies! Here's one I found on amazon! Good luck!

Do you give him food that said made on equipment shared with eggs? I forgot to ask her if that was ok.

The allergist said I can bring him into the office and they can do a test to see if he will have a reaction and then they can give the shot right in the office.

My DS is allergic to eggs and he can have food made on equipment that may have been shared with eggs. In fact, he can have food that contains small amounts of eggs and our doctor felt that we do not have to worry about cookies and cakes as long as they are not loaded with eggs. I know it can sound vague but I feel that I know what he means, no quiche, no actual eggs, no french toast. My DS can get the flu shot under the same type opf medical supervision that you mentioned. I would think that if your son can also have the flu shot then his allergy is to a similar degree as my son's. Our doctor does not seem to give the same instructions in every case, so I guess you should clarify. What I first noticed was a contact allergy, so wherever the egg had touched him, he swelled. Scary but that was a long time ago and he does okay without me looking at ingredient lists all the time. If I am not sure, I do not give the food. HTH.

My DD had a bad very bad reaction to both egg whites and yolks in the allergist's office, yet she can have the same things as Kerri's DS. I did stay away from the flu shot. Both the allergist and ped. felt that risk of her having a severe reaction to the shot was greater than her contracting the flu. Another shot to remember about is MMR. If I didn't bring it up they would have given it to her. They did test her for the MMR and she was ok so the allergist gave it to her.
I found out when dd was 6 months old and she is now 2.5 and no problems.

No Lauren, I am a super worrier and a paranoid mommy, I am so scared to do it and him get sick. I guess it really depends on your comfort level, DS is borderline severe allergic to I've been over cautious.

Declan is allergic to eggs. For snacks-I buy those at whole foods.
Some eggg free ones: Earths Best Letter of the Day cookies Chocolate Crunchin Grahms Cascadian farms clifford cereal Cheerios Those smiley face cookies Mum Mums
Food-I give mostly unprocessed food. If I make them chicken nuggets-I dip the chicken in yogurt and then panko
Otherwise-they have a meat a carb and a veg at lunch and dinner
For breakfast- I give them organic dairy and egg free waffles with yogurt, sausage, and fruit
I tend to stay away from the "processed on the same equipment" but I have given him things here and there that say that.

Re: So, DS is allergic to eggs. What the heck can he eat now?
Thanks everyone, I've been giving him the "processed on same equipment" all along and never causes the vomiting, but I am going to try to stay away from it as much as possible, even though it seems everything says it - even the EB stuff says it. Whole foods just opened here yesterday so I tried to get in there to see if I could get some egg-free stuff for him, but it was so packed. Hopefully it will clear out in the next few weeks.
