So frustrated and confused about DS's clothing size

I bought him a ton of new clothes for fall/winter in size 18-24 which I assumed he would be b/c last winter he was wearing 12-18 months. Well, the past few days it's been cold and I wanted him to wear some of his new outfits and they are all big on him...the sleeves are too long and the pants are too long. What I dont get is DS just had his 18 mo. check up and is the 90th percentile for his height which he always has been so I dont get why his new clothes are big Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Some are not so bad I can roll the sleeves or the pants but then DH tells me it looks dumb Chat Icon I actually had to put him in some of his clothes from last year that I had planned on giving to another LIF mom b/c he needed stuff to wear.

I think part of it is he has a longer torso, but shorter legs. I dont want to get his pants hemmed though b/c I know once i do that he'll have another growth spurt. Does anyone else have this problem?

ETA: I even washed and dried some of it thinking it would shrink a little and fit better...I feel like the sizes are off in the kids clothes.

Hi Crissy!

I totally have the same problem.

I ordered a few things from GAP the other day and I've been obessing about the sizes. I have to try the stuff on Thomas tonight.

He's a peanut... always has been. He runs pretty true to size in Carters. I plan to buy him some 18 months stuff for fall/winter. I had some GAP shorts for the summer in size 12 - 18 months and they were huge. He could wear them, but I had to adjust the waist to the tightest notch and he still had a little room. They were long too. So I ordered him three pairs of GAP jeans in 12 - 18 months since I figure they should last him through the winter. I order the larger, 18 - 24 months size in the shirts though because I feel they shrink more and end up looking small. I tried those on him last night and they are so long on him and the sleeves need to be rolled.

I'm obessing about the pants. I don't know if I should have gotten the bigger size or even if the smaller size will be to big. KWIM?

I have to try stuff on him tonight and I plan to do more shopping on Saturday.

I am actually debating on whether to get him a new GAP warmest jacket because he couldn't even wear his 6 -12 month last year because it was too big. I think I might be able to get another year out of it, but I would feel terrible if I was squeezing the kid into it if it was constricting on him or uncomfortable.

Re: So frustrated and confused about DS's clothing size

grrr...just wrote a long response and LIF timed me out.

Anyway...we are going through the same thing with Lucas right now. He's been in 12-18 months since March...I was sure he would be 18-24 months now but the clothes are too long for him...and like Tyler he is 90th percentile for height. Chat Icon Chat Icon You'd think they'd be in this size for sure.

So now I find myself scrounging the sales to get some things for him. I hate each purchase because I know he won't get a lot of use out of it but he still needs stuff. Thankfully I have some stuff from last winter.

But another annoying thing is that the 12-18 month pants are just right....almost close to crossing over to high-water category. It's almost like he needs an inbetween.

I buy mostly BabyGap and The Children's Place clothing b/c in the past it always fit him perfectly. Now, not so much.

He has this skinny waist and shorter legs but the size 12-18 months are a little too short. They don't look like flood pants Chat Icon but I wouldnt take him to a party in them either Chat Icon

I guess it's that inbetween stage. I told DH it's his fault b/c DS has his same body...which I just realized DH is 6'4" and has almost the same length legs as me and I'm 5'7" Chat Icon Chat Icon

Chat Icon Chat Icon We think the same way about the flood pants.

Ang, I went to Carter's the other day b/c they were having a big sale and I had an extra 20% off coupon and they had cute onesie and sweatpants sets. I bought a few of those to hold me over until hopefully he can wear his new clothes. I spent so much $$$ on them and I feel like at this point he won't be able to wear them until after Christmas.
