I swear, I don't know what I will do. Friday is my babysitter's last day. (As some may know, the woman who takes care of her husband quit, so she needs to replace her- but will stay home with him until she finds someone else). She may be back in a week, she may not be available for months.

So I decided not to look for a new nanny, but to put DD in daycare because she is 2. But in NYC, especially the upper west side, I have no idea if I will find anyplace that will take her- even for September. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Do you want me to ask DH's cousins where they have their daughter? It's a jewish daycare - they had to do an interview, but I believe they had no problems enrolling her once she passed the interview.

oh that is stressful! i live in brooklyn and sympathize with the childcare shortage. can you get a nanny short term and put dd in daycare when you get off a list?

i just put ella's name on the list at several places for the end of august. was told she was #20 but have no idea if that means she will get in or not by then.

I am sorry this is happening and it definitly sounds stressful.

Do you think Jordana would be able to stay with your sister until you find a daycare center?

Where do you work? There is a Tutor Time in midtown, and another downtown.

Is there any possibility you could get her into a backup daycare situation, until you can sort it out??? I know my husband's old company (in midtown)offered this, so there must be center's that keep a few backup spots available. Does Manhattan have the equilivant of a childcare council, maybe they could offer some ideas??

I agree with checking this out. My company's backup center is Bright Horizons... not sure if your company has an agreement but I would check...

Also, this is UES (so prob a PITA) but if you're desperate, my friend liked it...
