So I had a little weird aggravating experience today
We had friends over today for a BBQ - they have a 10 yr old and a 9 month old...I was sitting talking to the mom and the guys were off somewhere else...the 10 year old is in the pool alone, swimming...
All of a sudden, I look over, it's too quiet..I don't see the kid....so I say to his mom, let me go check on him (she was holding the baby)...
I see him floating face down in the pool - he is not answering when I call him and not responding when I poked him...
His mom is like "is everything ok?" and I didn't want her to panic....I said, yeah I think he is swimming - I wasn't sure if he was kidding but I wasn't taking any chances! So I called him again, poked him again - no response.
I went in the pool , fully clothed! and picked him up - the kid starts LAUGHING I told him don't ever do that!! And his parents were laughing, saying he always tricks people!!
I did not find it funny.

Re: So I had a little weird aggravating experience today
That is horrible that the parents were laughing. Then the fact that you were fully clothed. That is ridiculous. Another case of the child rules the world.

I was just like "it's not funny....even kids who know how to swim can drown when no one is watching them"...

Re: So I had a little weird aggravating experience today
That's absolutely terrible and tasteless on the part of his parents. They should be ashamed of themselves.
As an earlier poster said, that would have been the last time they swam in my pool as well!!!

Absolutely horrible!
W T F is wrong with the parents? I can't even imagine the grounding if one of my kids did that.
This trumps girlfriend's email by a mile.

Re: So I had a little weird aggravating experience today
That kid would not be allowed to swim in my pool ever again. In fact, I would not have them over again. This is no joke. Not funny at all.
Maybe these aren't people you want to be friends with?

Re: So I had a little weird aggravating experience today
Holy cow..... my parents would have killed me if I did something like that. And they would have been right.
I used to work with a bunch of jerks with sadistic senses of humor like that - and I always wondered where their parents went wrong.... I would guess that laughing at thier kids drowing jokes is a good start. That should be in the "how not to parent handbook."

Re: So I had a little weird aggravating experience today
That is actually unbelievable. Like every one else said, I agree that is completely NOT funny and I am shocked that the parents laughed and did not reprimand that kid. Even if they laughed out of embarrassment or they were shaken up, they should have corrected the kid for his own sake. Instead, he got positive attention from them for doing that, and now he's bound to repeat that dangerous behavior in the future.
I would seriously call the mom and talk to her about the fact that you do not want her kid in your pool again and how disappointed you were with their reaction. To think, you went in fully clothed out of concern and fear for that child, and all they did was laugh!
I don't blame you for jumping in the pool, by the way, they probably would sue you if he really did get hurt in your pool. Oh, I would be so fuming angry.

I know, right? The nerve of those people. Like you said Blu, I don't know if I'd want to be friends with people who would do something like that.

took the words right out of my mouth...
that was AWFUL and ABSURD!!
God, to think that type of thing is funny and to (pretty much) encourage a child to do that is insane- I wonder what the parent's of a child who actually DID drown would say!
