So I have MTHFR hetero.. Experts please come in..
What does this mean? I don't have my dr consult for another two weeks so I am curious? The nurse said its common, one mutation and all it may mean is that I need more folic... Just a little worried!

you will get different answers bc the actual mutation is very very common and some believe it is a reason for mc some don't
I have the worse kind you can have and my RE was big into immune testing
i was on metnax(folic acid)for the entire time i was ttc and pregnant

I discussed it with my OBGYN, My Primary Dr and my Hematologist and they all said its not believed, anymore, to cause complications/mc, etc.

Ditto this, but I consulted with 3 MFMs and 3 hematologists (I was pregnant with DD via IVF at the time). I was taking Metanx for a while but stopped once insurance no longer covered it. With the exception of one MFM (who puts EVERYONE on Lovenox), everyone said that the one mutation was incredibly common and nothing about which to worry.

It's so interesting you posted this. I have the same thing. My RE wasn't too concerned about this and basically told me that I should be on a high dosage of folic acid.
I know my parents aren't going to do genetic testing, but he also recommended that whichever parent the gene comes from should also be taking extra folic acid.

Re: So I have MTHFR hetero.. Experts please come in..
I have MTHFR too-I'm homozygous for a1298c. I've talked to so many doctors and most seem to feel it doesn't contribute to losses. I take 1 baby aspirin a day and folate instead of folic acid. (Garden of Life raw prenatals). Thorne also makes prenatals with the folate. Some say that with MTHFR your body can't convert synthetic folic acid so you should take folate instead. It's frustrating that there's not a set protocol. Some who have it are on Lovenox, but my doctors said with my mutation it's not necessary. Find out which one you have. I found a lot of info on "Dr Ben's" site.
ETA there are theories that a lot of the population has this and doesn't know because the only people who get tested for it are those with RPL, so it seems like there's a correlation when there might not be.
