So I told my Mom I want to know about my shower...
I mean.. I would love to help to plan it but, I really want to know the date, at least.
I just feel like such a dumpy mess that I want to look cute when I walk in. Pretty dress, make up, hair not in a bun...
She basically told me to take a flying leap off a short bridge and is refusing to tell me. I realllllly wanna know!!!
plus.. I think it's sooner rather than later. She keeps asking about dates for certain things I have planned in March!!!!
I think I need to play detective and figure this out!!!

I told my mom the same but they are granted me my wish Plus I want my shower in my house (so I don't have to cart the gifts back).

Re: So I told my Mom I want to know about my shower...
I know how you feel. I couldn't handle not knowing when my shower was. Luckily my mom has the same opinion as me on this matter so she had no problem letting me know whatever details I wanted.

Re: So I told my Mom I want to know about my shower...
I don't understand their mentality about this - If the party is for ME, WHY are you making my life so difficult ?? Like you're REALLY not going to have ANY idea whatasoever ???
I begged my Mom to let me know - I told her I wouldn't do ANYTHING if she didnt' want me to, but I just did not want to walk into a room of 85 people at 30 somethine weeks PG and have to manuver around kissing everyone hello and looking like sh*t !!
It will be SO much easier and more enjoyable for me if I can just greet and talk to everyone as they walk in, feel decent about the way I look that day and not have to pretend I had no idea !! - She wasn't thrilled about it, but she caved.

I said that to my mom too, that I wanted to know, and she seemed disappointed. I am due in August and I just begged her not to have it before it gets to hot. I'm not big into surprises, someone always spills the beans to me.

I said the same thing to my mom & sister, and they ended up telling me.
I said that in my highly pregnant state, I couldn't stand a surprise.

See, I don't get this at all. Someone is throwing a party for you - and they have the right to do it how they like. If they want it to be a surprise, you go along with it and say thank you. JMO, but I just think it's really rude to dictate where and when it should be.

Re: So I told my Mom I want to know about my shower...
Well, I've already told my mom and my sister I would like to have my shower in June. I'm a big planner, and I think they benefit from the direction. They wouldn't expect anything less from me.
Keeping this a secret from me will be more stressful and annoying for everyone involved.
I will definitely know when the shower is and may very well know where it will be held. If they want the place to be a surprise, that's fine. I know they'll do a great job.
ETA: I should also add that this is my mother's 7th grandchild and 4th baby shower she's planned. She's very relaxed about a lot of things, and usually sits back and lets my sisters do all the work. She said she had 4 daughters for a reason!

Re: So I told my Mom I want to know about my shower...
my girls are being VERY careful and aware of my anxiety issues....i am TRULY blessed with them as my friends...
i know the date and location and that's it (and the location was an accident). I told them, other than knowing the date, i trust them fully and know they wouldn't do anything to make me anxious (it took 3 xanax to get me through my bridal shower and 2 xanax to get through the wedding...me & attention do NOT mix).
Dave will be by my side the whole time (he's QUITE the character, and takes away a LOT of attention) and there will be NO 'look at Jessica' type games, etc...so it was important for me to at least know the date...

Re: So I told my Mom I want to know about my shower...
Between both sides of the family, there are so many events going on during the time my shower would be that my mother had to work around. I feel like it is not going to be hard to figure out due to this. I told my mom I wanted to know and she didn't mind, but felt that the guests will probably expect me to be surprised. I do not want to be surprised

I thought about telling my Mom that a surpise could send me into preterm labor... but, she is an l&d nurse and would see right through my bs.

I think there's a big difference between not wanting to be surprised and wanting to dictate where and when and all of the details .........
Also, and maybe it's just me, but when I do something for someone (ie: throw a party) or buy a gift or whatever, I don't have the mentality that "I'm doing this for you so I'm doing it MY way and I don't care what you want ........" I kind of think that defeats my purpose of wanting to do something for the person. - I'd MUCH rather do or buy something that I KNOW the person is going to love and enjoy etc etc. -
Like I said, rude and ungrateful to dictate to your generous party planners "I want it on this day, at this place, with these invitations, and these favors and this guest list and blah blah blah" .....but at the same time kind of controlling and silly IMO for the planners to say "Well, I'm throwing the party, so I don't care what you want' (as far as it being a surprise, or it being HUGE if you prefer something small - etc)

I do have to agree - for me personally, it's all about anxiety and how i'll 'deal'. Xanax is NO longer an option...so for me - knowing the date was huge...so i wasn't surprised and shocked and then thrown into a WHOLE different state of anxiety.

Re: So I told my Mom I want to know about my shower...
This was my reasoning as well. I knew about my shower but thats all I knew!!! Everything there was a surprise. I am glad too, cause I got my hair done and knew exactly what to wear!!
