I have only heard back from one company in 3-4 months. Don't move without a job...it takes forever!

eta: Janice and Nicole728 will vouch for this Chat Icon The one company I did hear from is going to set up a phone interview. *hippy skippy*

I know what you mean. I started interviewing for a company based in Cary in August. I had 3 interviews with them (2 in person and 1 over the phone) and I didn't hear back from them until NOVEMBER! I didn't get the job Chat Icon

If anyone works for a big company, transfers are the way to go. Companies get so many resumes with people trying to move down here. But there are a lot of jobs, you just have to wait to find the right one for you.

Yes, I agree. I had a job in Charlotte before I moved down, that was the only option for me

Re: So, I visited my friend in N.Carolina this weekend...

I went to look in NC and I hated it. We coldn't get out of there fast enough. I guess I need to look in different areas, then where I went.
I wish I could figure out what everyone thinks is so great, because LI is so expensive. I need somewhere to live. I actually think I just don't like the south at all.

New Bern! What an awful place. A family member who lives in NC reccommended this area. There was nothing to do at any time during the day. To be honest, I didn't even find it that pretty. I haven't been to Charlotte yet, so I guess I have to visit there. I know NC has all the stores New York has, and the houses are nice and afforable, but there is just something missing. I need more then affordable living. If someone could reccomend a better area, I am all ears.

Charlotte!!! I would recommend visiting this city and see how you like it. There are tons of young professional people in charlotte, lots of things to do. It is a very fun place. Chat Icon

we visited the Raleigh area and found it to be very nice. def not like NY like I said earlier. but we were pretty impressed. everything is clean, even the highways are completely devoid of trash. the strip malls and reg malls are new and nice. there are lots of new developments but there are some older areas too which were so quaint. we loved all the big trees and many parks that we saw. it just seemed like a really nice place to live and raise a family.

If you can handle the heat, AZ is awesome. I sepnt 5 yrs there for college. There is so much to do a great nightlife, great outdoor activities(you do get used to the heat after a couple of weeks and can actually be outside without sweating, I swear! Man do I wish I had bought a 3BD 2 BA brand new house with pool for 100K when I was there. I think you can still get a nice house for under 300k there. The location can't be beat, Mexico-5 hrs, San Diego, LA and Las Vegas 5 hrs by car or 45 mins by plane!

We were looking in Moss Creek in Concord. We loved it.
We also loved Rolesville near Raleigh. If we didn't buy out house last year at the top of the market we would have moved in a heartbeat!

Re: So, I visited my friend in N.Carolina this weekend...

I had to fly down to Charlotte for a week to do some work with TIAA-CREF. Beautiful offices!!!

Anyway - the girl I was dealing with there was telling me she and her husband both got job transfers with their companies to move down there from Manhattan. She said that it owuld be the only way they could afford a house - but she was still in culture shock. She didn't have her own car and her husband was driving her to work. After the third day she burst out crying because she was going nuts so they got a car for her.

Anyway I often wonder how things paned out for her.
