 Poor little guy...hope he's feeling ok today!
I agree about covering it to prevent him from picking at it once it starts scabbing....though I know they recommend letting it air out too so that the scabs can actually form in order to heal. I'd definitely call your ped (if you haven't already).

I swear by Vitamin E oil. I had 2nd/3rd degree burns on my hands as a kid and have NO scars today because I used vitamin E oil. I also have used it on scars on DS's face.

My friend is a dermatologist and she highly recommends Maderma - they make one for kids too.

I hope he is feeling a little better today.
If it isn't a deep scratch it probably wouldn't scar anyway. Especially since he is only 2 and growing so much the skin stretches as they get older which makes scaring less likely.
But I have heard great things about the Maderma.
