So, my Mirena iud fell out. I'd like to formally take back all the times I recommended it on here and tmi!

Long story short I got a crampy period which I have not had since insertion about eight months ago.

Was feeling uncomfortable and nauseous. Even took a preg test I had in the house to just try and rule out thoughts I was having.

Went to check the strings and they were right there like a quarter inch from hanging out of me. The iud was lodged where a tampon would sit, behind that muscle, so it was already completely out of my cervix.

I said to myself I would very gently tug and if I felt any discomfort I would stop. It slid right out.

and I'd like to formally take back the million times I raved about it.

SO WEIRD!!!! This was on Teen Mom 2 (it's a guilty pleasure I have LOL). Chelsea's OB told her that this happens to 3% of woman with Mirena. Did you call your OB? Are you not going to put it back in? I'm currently pregnant with our first and keep thinking I want to get the Mirena but we want to try for a second in 2 years but now with hearing of 2 people within a couple of weeks makes me think maybe taking the pill the good old fashion way might be my best option!

That stinks!
I feel like there is really no good form of bc.
I struggle with this all the time. You would think in this modern day and age of medical technology they would have a better option.
I feel like every form stinks in one way or another.

What about the post about waxing and people talking about getting Brazilian waxes? Does that need to be removed too? I don't get the big deal.

When did you get it? I was told if it is going to fall out it will usually happen within the first few months of having it. I'm always wondering about mine.

Sorry that happened! I've heard of a few women where it has come out. I had it in for 5 years and never had an issue. Actually, when I went to get it out, my OB had to do a sono first because he couldn't find it to get it out But I still recommend it, it was the best form of BC I ever used.

It said TMI in the subject so there was a warning ( not that I found it offensive anyways)

holy I would've freaked out! I've written on here before about the horrible experience i had with the copper T. It also moved (did not come out) and when I had a trans-vag ultrasound the technician was like ummmmmmmmm don't have unprotected sex because it's out of place!

had it removed shortly thereafter.

I've been back and forth on the idea of getting one...sorry you went through this. I've been weighing the pros and cons and having heard your story and that it can shift...ehhhh that is just too risky for me! I don't see myself ever getting one now.

What is gross about that? ??

How long was it in? I had mine for about 2.5 years and really didn't have any problems. I actually never felt my strings, and aside from the initial insert, my dr didn't either and they always had to do sonos to check placement because the strings were so far back.

Hi OP just a question did it hurt when they put it in where you asleep or is it just kind of like an exam and then the other question is it covered by insurance... also now that it fell out will you get put back
I have been wanting to get one but now I dont know...
ALso how was it after you got it did you know it was there did you periods still come regularly

I have the Mirena now. Sometimes you hear random things like this that make you think. When I'm done with this, I'm gonna do the Essure. Ask your doc about it. It's permanent.

That's crazy! I'm sorry that happened to you. I will say, though, that there are side effects and risks with every form of birth control. So there will always be a percentage of people who have issues.

To answer the questions-

I had it in around eight months with no issues before this.

My periods were irregular but wonderfully light.

Getting it put in felt like one single labor contraction- you're in the stirrups like for a regular checkup.

My insurance did not cover it at the time but I believe now it does (irony).

I will not be getting another put in.

I DID send dh a picture of it and THAT was admittedly gross, but I am trying to amp up the dramatics of all that my poor baby bearing lady body has been through to try and gently encourage a snip-snip
