I overfed my son in the beginning too. I was misreading his crying for hunger. It was actually sleep he was looking for.
Not sure if this is the same situation but The Baby Whisperer helped me tremendously.
I think this happens to me sometimes. It's a funny thing b/c u would think if the baby wanted to sleep they just would... I mean sleep is basically the only self service thing a baby can do, lol. But yeah, it's the truth...

I don't agree with your ped and neither did my ped.
Ours confirmed that you can't overfeed a newborn that at that age they eat because they are hungry and not because of taste/etc. Also, if he over eats, the worst that will happen is that he will spit up whereas if you underfeed the results are much worse.
Just my two cents. Totally agree!!
