So Nervous about IUI timing.
So the RE has been telling me to use the OPK's with FMU. Which is wrong??? Correct??? So whatever, I listened. I tested yesterday and nothing. Tested this morning and got the . But I seriously think that If I tested yesterday at 3pm I would have gotton the smiley face.
BUT Saturday I had EWCM. Looking back on the past 6 months I always get EWCM next day I get the the smiley next day I O.
So I really think that I followed this pattern this month, I got EWCM on Saturday late night and that I would have gotton a yesterday and I would be Oing today. I am also getting crampy on the side I am set to O from.
So I called the doctor and explained to the nurse that I think that if we wait until tomorrow to do the IUI that we will have missed O. SHe says that you O 36 hours after the surge. Well, don't you think that if I had the smiley this morning that I would have also had it at 3pm yesterday. She insists that coming in tomorrow is the appropriate time. So I concede and I am going in tomorrow.
But My gut tells me that I am missing it and I should have gone in this morning. I don't know why she didn't say, just come in. But she didn't. So now I am a bundle of stress.
Am I wrong? She keeps saying, "no you use the OPK's in the morning not the afternoon". No you don't. You just don't.
ETA: They haven't been nasty at all. She did offer to have me come in right away to draw blood and check the LH surge. But dh had to go work. So what good would that have done. I know I am surging. And I would have no sample if I needed it.

Re: So Nervous about IUI timing.
Ok, I know it's hard, because I do it myself, but stop overanalyzing! Think about it this way - EVEN if you think your surge started Sunday night, you're still ok. Ovulation takes place 24-36 hours after you get your surge. Let's say you DID start surging Sunday night. And let's just say that you ovulated on the short end of the spectrum, about 24 hours later (and my RE told me research shows that most women ovulate in the wee hours of the morning, so for you, that's likely tonight), then you're talking about ovulation at some point tonight, right? Keep in mind, the egg lives for 24 hours, so even if you have your IUI tomorrow morning, you're still FINE! And, in fact, that's the ideal day that most RE's schedule the IUI for...
Tomorrow they should do an ultrasound which will tell you exactly where you are - if the follicle is still ripe, it will mean you're surging, but haven't ovulated yet. If the follicle has collapsed, it likely means you've ovulated at some point overnight, and the egg was released and still ripe and ready for fertilization in your body.

Re: So Nervous about IUI timing.
Really?? OKay.. THat does calm me. I thought the egg only lived for a max of 12 hours maybe less..
If it is 24, then I feel a lot better. Thanks for that. I think I just need to be talked down from the edge of insanity!!

I've always been told it's 24 hours.
Also, have some faith in the OPK's - I've always used FMU despite the instructions, and that's how I got pregnant the first 2 times. I know for myself, after tracking my cycles for 12 months now, I go from NOTHING on the OPK's, to my surge the next day, with nothing in between. It happens very, very quickly for me. So I would suspect your OPK's are on the money. You didn't get a smiley yesterday because you weren't surging. The surge probably came on overnight, which puts you right where you should be in terms of timing for the IUI.
By the way, RELAX and good luck!

Thanks... I have to try to breathe and relax all day. It doesn't help that I just put my dog out back and she found a bunny and chased it all over the yard. I was out there chasing the dog, who was chasing the bunny. She almost got it a few times too but I finally caught my dog and now my shirt is covered in mud.. The stupid bunny won't leave my yard and my dog is standing on the widowsill screaming at it. I tried to let it out the back gate but It ran away from me...
My heart was pouding out of my chest!!!!!

Re: So Nervous about IUI timing.
Don't worry...
I don't know why he's telling you to do OPK with FMU, but either way...like Beth says, I think your timing will be just fine. Good luck!
