Re: so sad, need hugs (bfing/weaning)
Why do you have to do it cold turkey?"Have you tried different bottles and nippes? I had to go back to work and it took a few days for him to take the bottle. Have someone else feed him with the bottle because he associated you with BF. .

Re: so sad, need hugs (bfing/weaning)
how did you get your dc to take a bottle? i try every day and nothing.
we've tried: -silicone & latex nipples -different bottles -slow-fast fow nipples -water, water w/ juice, bm, and formula (powder & ready made) -dh, my mom, and i have tried to give the bottle -we tried when he's hungry and when he's not - we've tried a spoon, a sippy cup, a cup, and a straw
***( he'll take some from a dropper that he sucks it out of, a sippy cup (only a tiny bit), and a spoon, but goes hystreical when it's the bottle. he chews on the bottle nipple when he's not hysterical but will NOT suck!)

Re: so sad, need hugs (bfing/weaning)
I see where you have tried everything. It tool about five days to get my son to do it! He had no choice because I had to work. I am so sorry!

I'm confused -- if you want to breastfeed why does it matter if he won't take a bottle? You said he'll take it from a sippy cup and a dropper -- that should be fine if you just want to make sure he can take a bottle if you need to go out.

Re: so sad, need hugs (bfing/weaning)
Personally, I wouldn't go through all that just "if you need to go out" since that would never be long enough to matter that much... the going away plans though do make it necessary at some point -- of course so much changes naturally in two months time. By then he could be really into solids and more interested in cups.
Good luck working this all out.

he'll only take a few sips from the sippy cup. i still want to bf but want to give bottles during the day if possible so that i/we may go out more freely. i guess i want the best of both worlds, bfing AND bottle.

Re: so sad, need hugs (bfing/weaning)
I'm a little confused too..But you are doing a great job, and it's your personal decision whether to stop or not, but whatever you decide, please make that decision without feeling guilty
I weaned DD around 3-4 months old only because i hated pumping and needed to go back to work.
SHE absolutely refused the bottle countless times and would work herself into a tizzy until i gave her the boob.
The only thing that worked for me was to trick her. I would do everything i would do to bf'd her, get the boppy, lift my shirt, and just when she went to latch a warmed bottle when into her mouth. Sometimes she's take it, sometimes she'd freak. i never pushed it and if she took it, good if not she got the boob. it took a good month for her to consistently take the bottle. I also didn't wait for her to be starving, or to be crying for the bottle.
My DD would get even more worked up if anyone else besides me did this, i had to be the one to trick her or otherwise she'd get wayyy too worked up.
Good luck!

Re: so sad, need hugs (bfing/weaning)
Did you run this plan by your doctor? (Or is a feeding specialist also a doctor?). I assume your DS is on solids now? During this "cold turkey" time, can you put extra formula in his cereal?
As you know, I'm having a similar issue and we have resorted to to dropper feeding DD. We try the bottle everyday but she's just not having it. I just ordered a $12 botte () - the Adiri Natural Nurser -- should come in the mail today or tomorrow. I'll let you know if we have any luck!
