DS is only 7 1/2 months, but I didn't realize doctors would recommend weening from the bottle so soon!

Bottles are not only bad for their teeth but also for their speech. It is an immature suck pattern used for nipple drinking and can cause tongue thrust.

I think the rush is that bottles are NOT good for the teeth
2 of my nephews had bottles and they are paying for it now
they both have bottle rot and my nephew is going to have to be put out next week and have his teeth ulled because of it
he is also over 3 but I think the doctors just want you to be aware pf the damage they can do to the teeth
Surely this is a VERY extreme case. Not the usual kid has 2 bottles a day, doesn't carry it around, drink juice out of etc...
My son has a bottle before bedtime, he is almost 2. I don't see this as a problem, he drinks from cups all day long.
Actually this is NOT an extreme case. I see it everyday at work. Not only does the "bottle" impair speech causing a lisp as they continue to grow, it also damages the teeth.
By 15 months bottle should be taken away and at night the contents of that bottle should be pure water.

I feel like they want you to give it up earlier and earlier these days.
In another 10 years they will be wanting 6 month old off the bottle.
I don't see the point...

my DS is 27 months and still drinks milk out of his bottle my doc wanted him off at 1 , so I don't tell them the truth. the santa idea is a good one , maybe I will try it

My dd is down to 2 bottles a day. (she is 18 months.) My pediatrician recommends 15-18 months no bottle BUT I cannot see this. He said DEF NONE by 2.
I will have to see. She is very attached. We used to do 5, then 4. At a year we cut to 3/day and it was no prob, at 17 months 2 a day...this is hard now.
