So the Verizon guy came a knockin
he apologized for not getting to us sooner..we (three houses down our easement) were overlooked..he could stop apologizing.
I told him, no worries, not interested.
Door to door?

Re: So the Verizon guy came a knockin
yeah, FIOS..I'm perfectly happy the way things are..not wanting to change right now.
I just think it's funny that he was saying that they laid all of the lines a while ago and never offered it to us. As if to say, you should have gotten this by now, and we're sorry it took us so long.
Like we are customers already

Let me tell you, they will HARASS you.
They harassed us. Rang out bell days in a row. Dh told the guy NOT interested. He demanded to know "WHY? I have to KNOW why you don't want it." Dh was furious, and said "I don't HAVE to tell you anything."
Our dummy neighbor got caught and she let the guy IN!!! Well they were already talked into getting it, so she let him in. She said he sat at her kitchen table for over an hour! We were like "WHY would you let a stranger in?"
I have since gotten repeated letters, fed exes in the mail trying to sell us Fios. My neighbors all got it. I don't want it. We are happy with what we have and don't want anymore wires, lines ran to our home. I don't care if it is cheaper, I don't want it.
Another neighbor of mine said she said no, then days later her phone line was all staticy, not working right and they told her "if you get FIOS, this would get better..." She then foolishly got the Fios and had problems with that too.
I was waiting for them to screw with our lines, but so far so good. They have been rude, pushy, persistant to say the least. We do not appreciate their harassment to say the least.

Re: So the Verizon guy came a knockin
I've had the same guy twice at my door, and both were at night, and the second time was at 8:54 p.m. He was going on and on, even though I lied and told him I can't make a decision without DH SO he came back (my bad!).
A few weeks later, another rep came knocking, and I feel bad for her, but I let her know exactly how I felt about being harrassed. She told me she was sorry and it wouldn't happen again.
It hasn't.
And we might even consider FIOS, but when we are ready, we'll call them

ya know, being harassed like that totally turns me off. I wouldn't consider it because of that.

It's very annoying. We've had a guy come twice and then a third time left a note on the door. The difference is: I already HAVE Fios!

Re: So the Verizon guy came a knockin
They use to come around on Sunday right as we got home from church. We already have FIO phone/internet but trying to get me to switch to FIOS TV. I am happy with my DirectTV. When they'd start questioning me I'd get furious & close the door....something my DH wont do.

The customer service is not the best, BUT if you have a big LCD or Plasma tv, YOU CANNOT BEAT THE PICTURE.....
I have had it for over a year and it is the best.

Re: So the Verizon guy came a knockin
They've been banging on our door too.
The salesmen, or rather sales kids, weren't too bad, but this last guy was obnoxious. He got angry with me because I wasn't interested in the package. The salesman should have said "Ok, thank you for your time" instead of yelling at me because I "didn't want to save money." Uh, yeah...that attitude should sway me. I don't get nervous easily, but I was on edge that night (DH was traveling.) The guy just seemed unstable and I was afraid he was going to come after me for turning down his sales pitch.
I've been considering writing Verizon because I'm really not happy with their door-2-door pitch. As others here have mentioned, I feel like I'm being harassed and this last guy was just rude.

I was thinking the same thing and was going to write but to be honest, I never did b/c I was afraid I conveniently would have "phone" troubles. This happened to us once growing up. My parents had a run in with a Verizon rep, and then they later saw him in their driveway in the phone box and voila, they had phone problems! No joke, they can be very sneaky and spiteful.
Verizon's sales pitch really is a form of harassment. The young salesman said the same thing to DH "Don't you want to save money?" DH said "No" and he repeated "You don't want to save money???" Dh said again "No, I don't care about saving $ and I am not interested." So the rep demanded to know why why why.
My neighbor told me he kept looking over her shoulder when she opened the door, the first few times he tried to make his way in practically. The last time she let him in and he sat in her kitchen (as I said above).
This guy, in his 20s, was VERY odd to say the least and had no regard/respect when speaking to potential customers.

they offer a triple play type package. Cable, internet and phone.
It's fiber optics and VOIP.
eta: this guy told me that they laid the lines a few months ago. I told him to check his records. The lines have been there since August 2005.
I suspect it won't be the last time I hear from them.

Cablevision does the same thing. We've had someone here at least once a week since we switched. So annoying.

Wow, I cave way to easily, and if it were me, we would have had the whole FioS package all installed & ready to go before DH came back from his trip.

Re: So the Verizon guy came a knockin
Yes and they NEVER leave - They have been here several times and I just don't answer anymore - One time they rang while DH was on the phone - he answered it and the guy just kept talking - DH indicated that we were not interested and that he was on the phone - but the guy just kept talking so DH closed the door on him and he kept knocking anyway

Re: So the Verizon guy came a knockin
Let me give you all a little tip....the door to door salesmen do not actually work for verizon, they are outside vendors hired by verizon. Sometimes they ship them in from other states, drop them off in a neighborhood and have them canvas for sales.
If you tell them you do not want the service, please don't be afraid that anything will happen to your phone lines, the salespeople have no knowledge of how to do anything to your phone lines. They usually don't even know what they are selling. We hear horror stories all the time that they promise you the world and then when we, as verizon employees are left to try and pick up the pieces when we have customers who are rightfully pizzed off

Re: So the Verizon guy came a knockin
hmm...maybe that is verizon who keeps knocking on my door and I won't answer. The first time a unmarked small truck was in front of my house and my bell rang - I went to the door but didn't open and I asked thru the door who it was and I could have sworn they said verizon - but I was also afraid it was one of those crazy people who sell meat door to door. I said I didn't call anyone and walked away. He stood there for awhile and then sat in hiis truck for a bit in front of my house and had me so freaked out. Then this week again - man, similar truck going door to door. I didn't even go to the door this time. That is really not right to do, the fios junk mail is enough.

Re: So the Verizon guy came a knockin
We signed up with one of those door to door salesman this past summer, and we were getting $100 in gift cards, including a $50 gift card to Target.
I called Verizon to change the date of install and I was on hold for 45 minutes, being switched around from different people. It seemed after a while that no one handled changing appointments. Its a really bad system them have over there. Anyway by the time I found the right person she said when would you like to change your appointment to? I said honestly, I have been on hold for 45 minutes and I think I am just going to cancel. So that is what I did and I am happy with my cable.
Anyway, a few weeks ago I got a letter in the mail from Verizon and in the letter was my $50 gift card to Target.
Do I use it?
