So, the weirdest thing just happened.

I have been inside all day and decided to go for a walk just to get out-- even though it's so hot.

As I was crossing over a main street here where I live, some random guy asked me if there was a hat store anywhere near by. Totally random question and I directed him in two directions where he may find a hat. One of the stores was in my direction-- so, he followed me for a block. The paranoid person in me thinks this is weird, so I stay on the alert.

Several blocks later, I am approaching my block, and I casually take a look back to see if the guy is behind me-- he isn't, but there is another guy walking behind me. There are always people on the streets, so I didn't think anything of it-- but, still I am slightly paranoid.

I turn the corner to my block, and this guy is still walking behind me. I took another look or two back casually to see if if he was still behind me and he was. I decided to just walk faster and get to my building and put my stupid paranoia to rest.

I buzz to get in my building and my buzzer doesn't work-- which happens sometimes-- which allows the guy to catch up to me. He comes up right behind me and is just standing there, staring at me. I decided to not try to get in again until he leaves. Then he says, "Is everything all right?". He sounded very weird-- either drugged out or crazy. I say, well I am having problems with my buzzer-- Again, he just stands there and stares at me. I asked "Do you live here?". And of course he said no and just stood there.

I waited for him to walk away before I used my key and I quickly shut the door behind me. I am totally freaked out-- what the hell was this guy up to?? And now he knows where I live. I am so scared now.

That is so scary!!!! I am so paranoid about stuff like this happening. I get chills reading this! Good for you being aware of what was going on around you. I'm sure that he was just some random weirdo though. Lots of loons in this world!!

I'm so so sorry that happened to you. I was once followed by someone from the subway when I lived in Washington Heights. Scary. I wouldn't worry to much. Probably just some strung out nut ball

I live in Hoboken-- every socio-economic group is represented here-- it's very diverse.

There would be NO reason that a total stranger should come up this close to someone while they are walking into their building. Unless they are delivering food or something.

He was just standing there, like waiting for something-- I don't know what! DH isn't home and he called right when I walked in and I told him the story-- he agrees that it's weird but he didn't really make me feel better.

holy cow, that's really scary!!! I'd consider Hoboken a safe place to walk around but guess any place is full of strange ones. Glad you're ok. I would have !

He sounds like a sicko who gets his kicks scaring people. He probably saw your reaction to him following you and went for it.

I wouldn't worry but you did the right thing by going home
