I remember:
TSS in Melville
The small Commack Bowling Alley on Jericho which is now Commerce Bank.
McCory's..That's where I got my ears pierced and I believe the fire happened right after.
The now Stop & Shop in Northport was a whole line of stores..Now, it's just
S & S.
Definitley remember and still think about the Commack Flea Market, Drive in Movie and Roller RinkChat Icon
Used to go there all the time.
Just recently (I think last month) the Ground Round in Northport shut down.Chat Icon

I grew up in Northport! The line of stores where Stop and Shop is now used to be Eddie's Pizza, a pharmacy, El-Cress, and the Greek diner! I even remember the little photomat in the parking lot! I used to cut through there on my way home from school everyday!

Remember Salvatore's? I also miss the old 5&10 in Northport Village!

I also wrote on one of the other threads I really miss Chicago Pizza Pub in Commack!

How about when Ground Round served peanuts (or was it popcorn... or both?) and the floor was a mess, and they had cartoons playing up on a screen. They introduced me to Betty Boop.

OMG YES!!! And ice cream in little baseball hats!

Salvatores!!! I remember hating their pizza because of the powdery stuff on the bottom.

The greek diner is now by McDonalds. The 5 and 10 was the best. it had two floors and the upstairs was the toy section.

And intermezzo in Ft. Salonga was just another pizza place and next door was a video store and the cvs was another drugstore that I can't remember the name for the life of me.

I forgot the roller rink across from Stop and Shop (which used to be Foodtown) on 25A. Then they turned it into a skateboard place. We used to play Ms. Pacman an Asteroids there all the time!

Re: So, the WWM thread got me thinking...

I grew up in Bay Shore and I remember the Gardiner Manor Mall. I remember I used to take my bike over the tracks and drive up Manor to get there. I would NEVER let my kids to that now. I was only like.. 8?

They had a video arcade, Orange Julius and Woolworth's and Joanne's Nut Hut and Sears and Gertz. When I was older I worked at the Sears there.

I also remember Captree Corners at the South Shore mall - but I wasn't allowed to go to that mall by myself because it was too far.

There was also a Five and Dime store where the Cardiology center is in the Captree shopping center Union Blvd in West Islip.

And I used to ride my bike up to Union Street food market (now a 7/11) on Union - right before Captree shopping center. And play "Dragon Slayer" at the little mom and pop drug store/soda fountain place next to Union street.

And I remember that the place where Home Depot is now used to be a drive in movie theatre when I was little. And I think Patchogue used to be a drive in too. I remember they had the speakers that you took off the posts and hung in your car - and later you would just tune your radio to the right station to hear the movie. Mom and Dad would let us bring pillows and a picnic and we would sit on the roof and watch the movie - or go to the swingsets up by the screen.
