SO to teacher salaries...
I was just curious if anyone knew why salaries were not posted by LI/NY districts? Here in VA all salaries are posted online (based on degree/years experience).
I was just wondering if there was any reasoning behind that.

Re: SO to teacher salaries...
probably not to piss anyone off....NYC teachers make less than LI but have such a harder job teaching in NYC. LIers pay more taxes and is so much $$ that goes toward their school districts.

Re: SO to teacher salaries...
Because the salaries differ from district to district in LI. It all depends on the taxes.
I tried to look up the salaries in Florida and they were hard to find as well!
It is almost better that NYC has a standard salary.

Re: SO to teacher salaries...
You can find a list though it may not be exactly clear- a woman who teaches at one of the other schools in my building had a printout of all the districts. Not sure how current it was and I forget the web site. I also remember that it was confusing- it wasn't by step, I think it was broken down by percentile? I know the NYC salary schedule can be found on the UFT site.

Re: SO to teacher salaries...
Hmm, makes sense... They differ from district to district here too... but they're all county school systems (mine has 137 elementary schools).
Thanks!

I feel that teachers salaries should NOT be public, I dont ask other people from other companies to post their salaries...I dont think it is the publics business

since the public is paying the salaries, they should know where the $$ is going - just like any government employee.
eta: Deb, do you have the website that posts VA teacher salaries?? FH is a teacher and id like to see what his pay would be there...

MANY districts on LI start lower than NYC.

I don't know of a site that posts all the salaries, but if you just go to any district's website, they should have the salary scale up.
VA salaries are all over the place though.
Counties around DC are: Fairfax, Loudoun, Prince William, Arlington
Richmond: Henrico, Chesterfield, Goochland, Louisa, Hanover
VA Beach/Williamsburg: Newport News, Chesapeak, Norfolk
Valley Area: Shenandoah, Frederick, Rockingham, Augusta
I taught in the Valley last year and moved up to the DC area this year and make about $10,000 more/year. However, you can buy a decent home in the valley for $250k... but a decent single family home in the DC area is going to be at least $500k...

Just for an idea
DC area: BS around 41k, MA about 46k Richmond area: BS around 36k, MA around 38k VA Beach area: BS around 37k, MA around 40k
ETA: I've seen low 30's for starting salaries in some areas of VA

Re: SO to teacher salaries...
The East Islip School District sends out the list of all the teachers salaries to everyone in the district. My parents get it. (I used to live there). I'm not sure if any other districts do it. I'm in another school district this year, so I'll find out if they do it as well.
