Re: So upset...please talk to me about coxsackie
Ang- bring him for the confirmation. Danielle had this over summer for her Birthday. (Totally ruined, but that's another story). There is nothing they can give you, but, you'll know exactly what you're dealing with.
Also, if he has the blisters in his throat, Dr. will be able to see that and let you know how mild/severe he thinks it is. KWIM? You might get a better grip on what you're dealing with for treatment and if he's not eating etc..
As far as daycare goes- you know exactly how I feel! I'm with ya 100%. It infuriates me to no end. When Danielle did get it, there were 4 other kids in her class w/ it, and they knew!!!!!! The only way I knew was she actually had the fevers for a few days too. It may be a good sign if Gregory doesn't have the fevers.
As for work, that's the worst part. The last thing you need to do is stress about work and calling in. All you want to hear when you do call is, "I hope everything's ok, take all the time you need". I too, work with a group that is 1. not married, 2 no children. its the worst.
I'm home tomorrow if you need anything, you know how to reach me.

Re: So upset...please talk to me about coxsackie
My youngest got it in October. Honestly, he had the sores in his mouth, hands and feet but he recovered really quickly and wasn't in pain. Also his fever never got that high. My oldest did not get it so there is hope your other son will not get it. However, I did get it and for me it was AWFUL. So please wash your hands constantly.

Re: So upset...please talk to me about coxsackie
Benjamin had it twice, once as an infant and once as a toddler. Both times, the hardest part was getting him to drink anything, much less eat. The pain he was in from the sores in his mouth was intense but there wasn't much other than giving him cold drinks and ice pops to try to numb his mouth that worked. Luckily, it only lasted a couple of days. Not much comfort, I know.
I'm so sorry, Ang. I hope Gregory feels better soon and that Lucas doesn't get it.
ETA: When we suspected it was coxsackie with Benjamin, I called the pediatrician and they had us go through a separate entrance, right into what they call their "contagious" room. Not sure if your ped has something similar but maybe call and give them a heads up. :(

That stinks the daycare didn't tell you right away. When DS was younger they "suspected" a child in the room might have it and they told us. DS never got it though.

Re: So upset...please talk to me about coxsackie
In the daycare's defense, it is EXTREMELY EXTREMELY contagious and you can get it anywhere from anything - So even though they may sterilize the room and clean everything the best they can, w/ those kids on top of each other playing all day........if one has it ........... AND, sometimes you (as a parent) don't know they have it and are contagious until it's too late.
I'm pretty sure last time Sean had it the Ped told me once the blisters come out it's no longer contagious .........but I could be pulling that out of my tush .......
I know how you feel re: taking the time off - thisis the first time in 10 years I used all of my sick days (the whopping 7 of them we get!) and I know it 'looks' bad .........
Sean is also sick - I think he may have Cocksadkie again and I'm peeved b/c it's his 1st Xmas to really 'get' it and be excited about the presents ..........
Hope they feel better !!!

Re: So upset...please talk to me about coxsackie
We had 2 types go through our house over the summer. First was the one that caused ds to have insanely high fevers. To the point we were running through the house stripping him to get him in the bath. That was on meds too. the most scared I have ever been for my child.
The second one was not bad at all. That one was the one with the sores in the mouth. Dd had sores in her throat but it only lasted a couple days and she was back to normal. I just tried to nurse her as much as she would take and gave her ice pops to eat. Oh and motrin for the pain. My poor baby. But at least she only ran a very low grade fever. I hope he feels better by Christmas and your other ds doesn't catch it

Re: So upset...please talk to me about coxsackie
Thomas had it twice. Never had rash from it though... fever and sores in throat. The ped said the sores in the throat can feel like knives, but honestly, he didn't seem to be in that much pain. He woke a lot in the night for the first two nights and then he seemed fine.
Gregory should be fine for Christmas!
I hope he feels better!

Re: So upset...please talk to me about coxsackie
my one daughter had it over the summer the other one next got it and they are twins and share EVERYTHING! So there is some hope. And as someone else said he should be fine by Christmas. Just keep him hydrated..pedialyte and then the tylenol motrin alternating. Baths also helped too.
