So what does everyone's flower beds look like this year?
I'm excited because mine looks so much more established this year. We just put in all these plants last year. They are looking much fuller this year and nothing died off on us.
Our dwarf blue spruce is looking so cute this year with the new growth coming in right now.
Our daylilies multipled which looks great so far.
Our Weeping Cherry (right) and Japense Maple (left) are looking much better then last year too. Previous owners didn't take care of anything.
Our Crape Myrtle is starting to grow it's new leaves for this year and will bloom in late summer.
And here are our new Purple Petunias with Chillin Limeade (lime green plant). Love the color combo.

I really need to take some pics of our landscaping and outdoor lighting.
Each tree/scrub has its own spotlight, its pretty cool!
All our tulips, daffodils already bloomed and I didnt take one pic
question about mulch, do you need to replace this every year? We put mulch down last year and its so faded and grey looking already.
love your landscaping it looks great!

Beautiful job! This is our first year with a garden and I'm loving it! I'll have to take some pics!

Re: So what does everyone's flower beds look like this year?
Right now mine are a mess.
We can tell that the previous owner once loved gardening but as she got older she couldn't take care of them, so they were let go. Mostly we get weeds, but then beautiful tulips or daffodils pop up! Each day we find something new - the trouble is distinguishing the "real" plants from the weeds!
We have to remove some major bushes in the middle of the flower beds though, which will unfortunately rip out nearly everything else, so until we get that done there isn't much I can do with the garden.

Not replace, but add more mulch on top of the old. It looks so much nicer when you first do the new mulch.
Thanks!

Believe me I feel your pain. We went through the same thing when we first bought our house. Weeds everywhere and didn't know what was were. We just weeded and hoped for the best really. Pics in my House old album. Some weeds were 4 ft tall when we closed on the house.
ETA: the day we closed on our house.
Hard to believe it's the same flower bed.

Re: So what does everyone's flower beds look like this year?
What type of plant is in the last picture with the wide leaves?
I will have to take pictures when I am finished with my beds.
I ended up finding a small weeping Japanese maple and I made a cut out on my lawn and planted it there. I am going to plant flowers all around the tree.
They had another tree that I loved at Starkies but I didnt buy it because I needed Part shade and I dont have anywhere to plant that. The leaves had a yellow and orange coloring to them. They were a type of Japanese m

Did you mean this pic? That plant is a Hosta. Sorry don't know which kind it is though.

JldDolphin - LOVE how everything looks! Did you do it yourself or have someone do it? I am hating the front section of my bushes but have no clue what to do? Is it very expensive to have someone do it the initial time? TIA!!

Thank you! We did do it all ourselves. We went to Garden Dept. in Coram and they were very helpful with selections for the area (sunny). We brought pics of the flowers beds with us and that is how they recommend what could go where. We told them we wanted easy to care for plants and that is what we got.
It might be expensive to have someone design up your landscape the first time, you would have to shop around, but it might be worth it in the end if you aren't that much of a gardener. But I'm not that much of a gardener and it wasn't hard for us. GL!
