We are still socially distancing and pretty much avoiding all people.

How long do you plan to do this and aren’t you worried about your immune system?

Do you have evidence for your immune system quote?

I don’t stay isolated in my house. We are outside all day. I’ve brought my son to the park but we’ve worn masks and socially distance best we can. We go on daily bike rides, runs and walks. I go to stores when necessary and wear a mask. I just don’t have BBQs with multiple families or go to crowded places. I am not concerned about my immune system. It’s not like it forgets how to make WBCs and antibodies. We are planning on getting together with family soon, but I am not rushing it. We will meet up outside. Covid-
19 is not over.

Nope it is not over and probably never will be just like other virus’ that can potentially kill you also.

Right, but they have treatments for many other illnesses. There is nothing for Covid right now. I’d prefer to wait it out and get it when more is known about the disease and when there might be a viable treatment. Crazy, I know.

The fact of the matter, whether you agree with it or not, the country is opening up. People are allowed to have get togethers now and kids can play with their friends. If you don’t agree, stay home. No one is stopping anyone from living their life how they see fit. Why get mad at others who are ready to move on to some normalcy? I just don’t get it. Stay inside, have a bbq, just mind your own life.

That's not the issue, the issue is people not taking others health into consideration. Im out everyday, because I work. I am not privileged to be working from home. I've had my cousin die, 6 co-workers be diagnosed, countless members of their families including TWO children, one who is in the hospital 2 months with no prior conditions. So just because everything is opening back up doesn't mean you have to do everything. I still try to keep my shopping trips to once a week. I have no desire to sit and eat in a parking lot. But if you are someone who needs to go everywhere and see everyone in the world because you can, wear your damn mask and back the eff up! I picked up something at Old Nay the other day for Fathers day...asshole in his 40's with his kids kept getting closer and closer until finally he was on me! I told him to get back on his circle, they aren't there for decoration. I don't want your germs, I don't understand why you( general you) can't be considerate. I didn't want you up my ass in a store Pre-Covid, not sure why people think it is ok now.

This isn’t a competition, I know people who died one was a cop, my cousin was diagnosed, had every symptom and was sick for two months, my DH also worked and has been exposed twice. I know other who were diagnosed. So not sure if that makes me better than other or even the point of using this as an argument.

Secondly, my response was to people criticizing others for bbq’ing, letting their kids live and see friends. Not about wearing mask or being up each other’s butt. Things are opening and if people want to enjoy all the perks, stop caring so much. Let them go shopping, eat out, get their hair done etc, who cares. Live your life. I don’t get why it bothers people so damn much.

It’s not illegal, it’s allowed now and is helping the economy. You know the people who were about to go starving and lost everything, the people who want to do “everything” are helping these families survive.

Nobody said it was a competition. My point in saying i have lost people was to the people on this board, and we have a ton, who do not believe in the virus. None of this was directed at you. And no the people who go to Target, Stop Shop, Home Depot, CVS every single day are not helping anything. We can order from those businesses or do pick up. The people who have been socializing since day one are not helping any families survive, I'm not even sure how you are making that argument. You obviously don't agree that the virus is serious and that is fine. You are in NJ if I'm not mistaken, so I'm not worried about you. I doubt our paths will cross. My whole point was just because you can do something doesn't mean you should. But your actions, going to eat, nails done, hair done, do affect others. We don't live in a vacuum. I just want people to be cognizant of the fact.

Actually NJ does effect NYC. You saying that shows how close minded you are. It doesn’t matter what I say, you just want everything to stay shut down and people to not go out. I do take the virus seriously, but I also know how to step outside of my bubble and see that others are also impacted. Covid is not the only crisis we are dealing with right now. I also don’t judge people who are scared or want to stay in and order everything online. That is their right. I don’t chastise them or say they are assisting in ruining the economy.

Sadly the same can’t be said for people who think like you. It’s seems like your way is the only right way to live right now.

I know NJ affects NY. I meant I don't know you and I doubt YOU are coming to my neighborhood. YOU don't want to listen to anyone but you and your fellow mean girls here. I am an essential worker, I will not be staying in , you're welcome. You have made it a habit to twist everything that anybody says that you don't agree with. I'm not engaging anymore. It's a beautiful summer day, I am at my beach house , so I am going to enjoy it instead of arguing with bitter women on the internet I do not know. I hope you will enjoy this day also and any Father's Day plans.

I’m the mean girl? You engaged and quoted me. But yea, I twist things.

Enjoy your beach house, which, further adds to my point. So easy to judge others when you live a certain away. Chat Icon

Sorry, but that exemplifies how you twist things.

Re: Social Distancing out the window?

By reading some of these comments, u’d think we were back in March when the numbers were high! I think looking where we are at now based on past events like Mother’s Day, Memorial Day, even the prostests where ppl weren’t necessarily following guidelines, we can say we have not experienced the so feared second wave. Going by Cuomo’s logic, we’re becoming less restrictive for a reason. So expecting ppl to wear masks whenever they’re outside, it’s just a bit much. I mean are we really expecting ppl to wear masks when they’re in the beach or eating outside?? I really think in 5 yrs some ppl will still continue complaining others are not strictly following guidelines. Chat Icon

No, the second wave was never supposed to come this soon. The concern about the second wave revolves mostly around the fall and all that comes with that time of year - a return to school, cooler weather, flu season, even busier hospitals, etc.

The idea is that if we can get the numbers as low as possible now, perhaps there doesn't have to be a second wave of if there is it can be minor and manageable.

Yes, I do expect people to wear masks outside if they cannot social distance and they are in a public place.

Obviously in your backyard you don't have to. But yes, if you're in the Stop and Shop parking lot, grow up and put on a damn mask. It's not hard. (Not specifically directed towards you, OP. In general.)

And your 5 year comment is just silly. Literally no one is saying this is forever. So much will change by then. There should be a vaccine. Maybe we'll be fighting something else. Who knows.

Side note I really hope Cuomo reciprocates the Florida quarantine. Let them pay a price for not having their shit together and keep them OUT of there.

The outrage that some people in society show at being asked to do what they can to show common courtesy for as long as we need to is appalling. This will take as long as it takes. It's going to go away because of science and progress, not because people throw tantrums.
We all want this to go away. We are not all in denial and withholding common decency and melting down.

My DH is a manager at TANGER in riverhead. His store reopened on Saturday and he said it was as busy as it ever it was. Tons of crowds, no social distancing. Everyone was wearing masks but no one was distancing inside the store while waiting to pay, people on top of each other looking through the racks of clothing etc...

I don't see (and this was one of my concerns) how people can social distance at a clothing store or store where multiple people want to look at one thing.
At this point I think the masks will be the most cautious thing to do as then we won't be able to reopen anything :(

Social Distancing out the window?

I don’t understand why people can’t just wear the masks. It’s annoying, yes. But for crying out loud, what kind of human beings have such little regard for others that they can’t go 5 minutes with a hot face for the benefit of society? Suck it up, buttercups.

When I grew up here on Long Island, we all needed to follow family & local rules. even if we didn't like it. When did rules just go out the window? I don't care if you don't like it. Follow the damn rules! Chat Icon

And even if you don’t like wearing a mask—at least have respect for the other human beings that have to work at these stores and be around 500 people a day. Deal with it for 20 minutes for them.

Usually they scream at her that it’s their “constitutional right“ to not wear a mask. They’re all a bunch of nutballs.

Of course it is. It is also her right to kick these idiots out of her store. How can people have such little consideration for the people who are working in these conditions? Its gross!

I literally can not understand what the big friggan deal is with the masks. I also think they are annoying. I also am not convinced they are doing anything. However, if I am wrong and they are preventing disease spread, what is the big deal? The inconvenience of fabric on my face? Feeling like I'm suffocating every little bit? Who cares? I sneak a breathe (that's what I call it when I quickly pull my mask down when I'm by myself to breathe for a minute - kinda like when I used to sneak puffs of cigs back in the day LOL) and I move on.

If wearing a mask means the increased possibility my kids are going to school in September, you can bet your last penny I'm wearing a mask.

I do as I am told too and wear a mask in stores but where are you only someplace for 5 minutes? I honestly thought I would pass out in Walmart the other day as it was so hot and I was in there about an hour.

I'm also confused how there are people who think Covid isn't a real thing. I have seen HCP on TV, etc. reinforcing that it is a real illness and I have no understanding of why that is even necessary. It sounds like a conspiracy theorist's dream come true.

I don’t know if they just totally don’t think it is real (maybe never knew anyone with it) or think the numbers were inflated.

The conspiracy theories I've read on facebook groups and heard from family members are ridiculous. The latest one was that hospitals were putting patients on ventilators unnecessarily knowing they would die because the hospitals were getting extra money for every dead covid patient.

While they do get extra money for Covid patients and even more for ones on a ventilator, that is just horrible for people to say they were put on them when not needed.
All these extra places hospitals made have closed though like SB and now workers are getting laid off. That is not right.

I was there last week and did not experience that at all. Everyone had masks on and the stores were pretty empty. I also went to Tanger in Deer Park yesterday and the same experience. Stores were only letting a certain number of people in at a time. And everyone was following the rules actually. Sorry your husband had that experience

I'm also confused how there are people who think Covid isn't a real thing. I have seen HCP on TV, etc. reinforcing that it is a real illness and I have no understanding of why that is even necessary. It sounds like a conspiracy theorist's dream come true.

The conspiracy theories I've read on facebook groups and heard from family members are ridiculous. The latest one was that hospitals were putting patients on ventilators unnecessarily knowing they would die because the hospitals were getting extra money for every dead covid patient.

That's crazy talk. Wow.

First of all, the large majority of people in health care go into it to HELP people, not hurt them. Hospital admins can do what they want but ultimately their staff is made of physicians and most admins are physicians and all physicians take the Hippocratic oath so they are all putting their licenses on the line when they make reckless decisions.

Second, setting morality aside, how does it make any business sense for hospitals to exaggerate Covid? They cancelled all elective procedures that make them millions of dollars every year. They scared everyone into avoiding an ER unless it was a dire emergency. Overall hospital consensus has been way down. Even traumas are way down because nobody was going anywhere. To say that hospitals were inflating Covid numbers and over utilizing vents to make an extra buck makes zero business sense. Hospitals are hemorrhaging money right now.

The ignorance of people is alarming.

Re: Social Distancing out the window?

This whole thing has opened my eyes about a lot of people. Some people have shown a selfish, aggressive side that I didn't know they had. I honestly think that some of the people who sound the most angry and in denial are actually just terrified and coming from a place of weakness and misery.

Others have shown themselves to be so gullible and ignorant.

We know foreign bots have permeated our social media before to disrupt things and possibly harm us. I wouldn't be surprised if the misinformation and the riling up of people didn't come from a similarly destructive force.

I just didn't realize that so many our poulation would be so willing to foresake science, decency, and compassion.

I was there last week and did not experience that at all. Everyone had masks on and the stores were pretty empty. I also went to Tanger in Deer Park yesterday and the same experience. Stores were only letting a certain number of people in at a time. And everyone was following the rules actually. Sorry your husband had that experience

Was it a weekend when you went? Not many of the store were open last week either so maybe that’s why?

Yes. One of our customers at work is Texas Children's Hospital. They were laying off a ton of our contractors (non medical) because a lot of their procedures, non emergencies, non Covid related things(and therefore money flow) was way down.
This definitely was not a money maker for the hospitals
So it's actually the opposite for hospitals.

The news is reporting that public health officials are receiving death threats and resigning.

I am starting to see the lack of consideration and hysteria as actual depravity.
