just wondering.

how many of you have already gone to a professional for some personal grooming... be it a hair cut, a dye job, mani/pedi, waxing, etc.

I will wait a bit, I am sure my girl will be booked. Plus I am not going anywhere where I need to get my haircut and colored in a dire need.

Re: social distancing spinoff... personal grooming

I picked the second option but it really wasn't because I couldn't wait any longer. Yes, I needed my hair done desperately but I was fine with my Yankee Caps and Scarves.

My hair stylists reached out to me personally in May and had wanted to start doing hair because she couldn't wait anymore financially. Mani/Pedi I got done for the first time last week.

ETA: There are a lot of immigrants in my area and they are severely struggling financially. Its very bad and most are still waiting for unemployment since March.

I voted - nope not yet. But, only because the salon I go to isn't open yet. I really need a haircut. My hair hasn't been this long since my wedding.

social distancing spinoff... personal grooming

About 2 weeks ago, I had a haircut done at my house by my hairdresser.
I'd love a mani/pedi but they aren't open yet.

I dyed my own hair with a box last week - I was quite pleased with how it came out.

I had gotten my hair cut in March so I am ok with that - its pretty long and all one length so I don't need to cut it that often.

I can't imagine racing to get a mani-pedi. I did a foot peel and painted my own toes. I don't get my nails done that often - I am very hard on them so no change there.

Wax, I just shave for now.

Re: social distancing spinoff... personal grooming

I never really thought of myself as "low maintenance" because I spend a small fortune on clothes, make up and fake hair and never really leave the house without make up on.

BUT I realize that I kind of am in that I never get a pedicure (would like to on occasion but suffered with some really bad fungus that my podiatrist has banned me from pedis lol) and if I get my nails done in a nail place 2 times a year it's a lot. I will get a gel manicure if I am going on a trip for more than a few days- just so it isn't chipping mid way through my trip.
But other than that I do my own nails and toes. I also do not wax professionally anywhere. I shave legs and bikini.

So the only thing I have been missing is hair color- my roots were ridiculously dark and had a ton of grays showing. Plus my ends were shot. I have very fine hair that is damaged- so my ends need to be trimmed often. I go to a woman's home so I am guessing she would take me if I texted her, but I had a friend who does hair do it last week so I'm good for now.

I usually have my hair dyed and trimmed every 3-4 months, but I'm realizing that the greys really aren't as obvious as I usually think they are by now. I'm waiting to see what happens with the second wave so I have no plans to get it professionally done any time soon, but I don't think I can go too much longer b/c my long hair starts to tangle when it gets too long b/c of the dry ends.

Pre Covid I had my manicure done and I only cut my hair about 2-3 times a year. I don't need to color my hair yet, thank goodness, and I have always done my own pedicure and my own waxings. Since the pandemic I have started doing my own manicure and I don't think I will go back to the nail salon anytime soon. I can't see feeling comfortable being 12 inches a way from the, and I am saving so much money a month. The only place I do need to go is the hair salon, I was overdue for a trim in April, but my place is in Queens so they aren't open yet and I wear my hair long so it's not like a major rush. I'll get to it!

From what I saw in other states they will have plexiglass between you and the nail tech- and you'll put your hands through a slot to have them done.
They will sanitize your hands before and after.

But I am with you I really don't need to go at all- I stopped getting my nails done because it was time consuming and got expensive and would chip in 2 days.
If my nails are going to chip in 2 days I might as well do them myself and save the time and money (and this way I can touch them up with the polish i used to do them when they do chip)
The only good thing I liked about the nail places was the gel manicures that lasted longer.... but those ruined my nails too so I only did them a few times a year at most.

I haven't had my hair cut since December and it's finally at a length I'm happy with so I won't be going for a cut anytime soon.

What I really miss and need! Are my eyebrows threaded. I can not wait for them to open!

Re: social distancing spinoff... personal grooming

to answer my own question.

i've been coloring my own hair since forever. i just colored it, last weekend.
i could use a cut/trim, but i'm debating if i should change it up... so i'm holding off on that one for a couple of weeks more.

i tried the foot peel mask that Nell suggested, and i've tended to my own cuticles. so my hands and feet are ok for now.

now, since i have reached a small-ish weight-loss goal... i have made an appointment to "reward" myself with some microblading.

Re: social distancing spinoff... personal grooming

I have a hair appt next week. I only cut don’t dye yet. If I did, I would have box dyed it by now.

Nails I do myself a lot but get a pedi when feel like a treat, so I don’t miss that. Though a pre summer pedi would be nice.

I’ve been plucking my brows in my 100X mirror and have a decent handle on it. Will get them waxed when she’s open again.

My lip I get laser so I have to shave that w electric razor. Can’t wait to start those sessions again too

My DH and DS got a haircut earlier this week

I have a haircut scheduled for the end of June. I’m not in desperate need, but I am overdue and I know my stylist could use the money.

I would love to get my nails done and eyebrows. Eyebrows I’ll wait since they need to literally on top of you.

Re: social distancing spinoff... personal grooming

I gave my husband, son, and father hair cuts with the trimmer and scissors I purchased due to the pandemic. They all told me I did a fine job and are willing to come back for a second haircut. I desperately need a cut and color for me though.

Re: social distancing spinoff... personal grooming

I need a haircut and a dye. I was supposed to get a hair cut in February, but I was 32 weeks pregnant, feeling awful and then just figured I could wait. Now it is 7 months since a cut and it is so long. I have to find out if my salon is open.

Other grooming I learned to do myself or just do not do.

My husband and son went to the barber a week before the shop closed. We asked extra short for my son in hopes it can last and it is 3 months and he could use a cut now. My husband decided to cut his own hair as he normally goes to the barber every 3 weeks.

If the nail places did that with the plexiglass, I wouldn't worry then. I wonder if they will all, or most , be set up that way? I've had UV Gel Extensions forever. Beginning of April I finally soaked everything off. My nails have always been weak and thin, even as a kid. I was trying April & may to just let them grow out. My nails do grow fast, problem is as soon as they go above my finger they break immediately and not just horizontally but vertically. I finally couldn't take it anymore and bought glue on nails from drugstore .Have to say they have come a long way from Lee Press on Nails! I've been getting at least a week or so out of them, one or two have come off that I've had to reglue. They can be reused and while I'm still doing damage to my nail, it's not as much. SOOOOO much cheaper than my $50 fill in plus tip. I think for time being I will stick with it and see how it goes!

Getting hair done this weekend. Mani's are a waste for me unless I am going someplace so I do my own. I can't wait to get a pedi though as I don't do a very good job.

I don't have any appointments yet. I really want to get a pedicure. I do need a haircut and color - but I usually skip getting my hair colored in the summer any way because I hate to pay all that money and then ruin it going in the pool. So, I'll probably wait and just color my roots at home for now. I am waiting - but not out of fear of covid.

Funny thing. i follow a make up artist on Facebook who sells really nice wigs. She said her business hasn't been busier than it was in April and May.
Everyone who can't get cuts and color and has 4 inches of roots and grey and grown out styles are buying up het wigs like hotcakes! Chat Icon
