Re: So...just had my first appt....they weren't the nicest people in the world...UPDATED to add another nasty comment I just remembered
Wow, I'm so sorry you had such an awful experience at your first OB appointment. Some of those comments made towards you were totally uncalled for Your first PG appointment should set the tone for your pregnancy and it should be an exciting and informative one. I'm sad for you that this wasn't the case
The only things I can say in your doctor's office "defense" (not that I'm defending them, mind you) is that (1) yes normally they don't like to see you until at least 8 wks or later and (2) very many offices have multiple OBs on staff and you meet with them all thru your pregnancy so that whomever delivers your baby, you are familiar with. I had 4 doctors in my practice, knew and loved them all, and actually the day of my delivery I saw 2 of them (one when I first was admitted, another when I delivered) -- and it was nice to have a relationship with both of them -
I do agree with everyone - its def. NOT too late to switch practices. It's so important to feel comfortable with your doctor.. they will be caring for you and your unborn baby these next 9 months, you need to feel at ease with how they operate!
Good luck!!!!!!!

I would definitely change offices. You shouldn't feel uncomfortable and you shouldn't have to explain yourself. That's ridiculous. As for seeing all the doctors, this is exactly why I went to a smaller office. With my second pregnancy, I started off by going to an office (actually sounds a lot like yours) and the idea of not knowing who would deliver my baby just made me too uncomfortable.

i am so sorry you had a bad experience i also am going to be changing offices, i love the OB i am with now but she is the only person in the practice which makes it diffucult to get in touch with her, she has not called me about the pregnancy, i had to call them for my BETA results, i have called asking questions about execise and acne, and the secretary always is the one i have to deal with (she asks the doctor). It would have been nice if the dr had gotten on the phone with me atleast one time out of the 6 or 7 i called. I just feel like if their is an emergency i dont feel comgortable that she will be around, the last time i saw her (before i got my BFP) they cancelled my app't 3 times b/c she had other patients in labor. I am now changing to another practice in my area where there are 4 doctors, i know some people dont like having that many, but atleast i know there is ALWAYS someone available, and b/c you go every 4 weeks from your 1st appt, and then every week once you hit 25 weeks, you get an opportunity to meet and get to know them all. Personally my DH and I like that better thne having someone who is the sole provider of their practice Good luck to you in your search

Re: So...just had my first appt....they weren't the nicest people in the world...UPDATED to add another nasty comment I just remembered
well, 4 weeks is EXTREMELY early. that is why by standard, most people see the dr. around 6-8 weeks. a lot can happen that MOST women would never know about between week 4 and 7 that would make a visit to confirm on week 4 depressing in the end. [like, a woman might normally think AF was a few days/week late...never knowign she was PG]
as for her attitude, that was wrong.
as for the multiple dr. practice, it's generally pretty standard in all mutliple practices that you see whoever is there that day and the same for any hospitalizations [labor/delivery and otherwise]. rarely do multi group drs see ONLY "their" patients.
best of luck. i did leave the practice i had my first visit at as i detested the dr and the way his practice was being ran. currently in limbo for a midwife, but definitely glad to NOT be uncomfortable.

I am so sorry you were treated like that-and I dont care how well a practice is rec, I would LEAVE- remember this is just the beginning of a 9 month relationship you will have with this office. Its pretty intimate- every 4 weeks, then every 3 weeks you will be seeing them. Do a search now, ask around get rec, call your insurance company get all on plan and go to them. You need to feel wonderful during this time and not made out to feel guilty or that you did something wrong!!! I would also either call or write a letter to that office sent certified and also go further and report them to NYS- and tell them you are too, let them be scared - how dare they treat you like this!
and stay off the internet?????? hello- are they with the times? EVERYONE and EVERY office knows that the computer is used for just about everything even to educate yourself with buying a car! It makes there life easier- not harder when we are well informed and know the lingo! Do yourself a favor and leave that practice!

first of all, congratulations... don't let anybody rain on your parade--- she may have her own issues or something, you never know.
i am in the health care field, and i like when people do their research and have a lot of questions to ask... it's means they CARE about themself or their loved one.
you can never be to cautious about your own health and your baby's so keep doing what you're doing...
GOOD LUCK and {{{sticky vibes}}} to you!

I just wanted to say thank you for all your wonderful support, ladies. My original post was a little snippy, but I was just feeling pretty down after my first appt. This is supposed to be a joyous time, and well....that appt just left such a bad taste in my mouth.
I have an u/s on Nov. 9th in another office and then I officially meet with the Dr. on Nov.21st. I'm going to make my decision after these two appts....who knows, maybe she was having a really bad day....but I will def speak with the Dr. about how I was treated, and I will write a letter if my point is not taken seriously.
Thanks again

Thanks for posting this! I'm not pregnant yet, but my current OB is affiliated with Hackensack University Medical Center, and that's too far for me, so I was going to look into Summit, Overlook for when the time came.
