Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
Much as I feel guilty about buying jars and jars of baby food, I don't have the fridge space to make the variety of baby food DC needs. (I do try to buy baby food in glass jars and make sure to recycle them all!)...
Just wondering how many moms here feed their baby store bought food vs. make the food themselves.

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
I put store bought, but I did make *some* of DD's food (way back when ). However, looking back, I think I wasted a lot of time doing that , and with any subsequent children, I think I'll stick to the jars.

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
I make most of her food, but I always have jar food and I use it as well. I like cooking as a hobby, so it's fun for me. I also like knowing that the food is fresh. But... I have the time since Im off on maternity leave. If I didn't have the time, I wouldn't stress about it. Jarred food is absolutely fine.

I made his food at the very beginning when DS started solid. Then over time we transitioned to store bought.

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
I did both. Somethings didn't come out smooth enough when I made them, like green beans and peas, so I bought those. Also real bananas need to be served right away, and that wasn't practical for sending to daycare, so we bought those as well. For other things, I made small batches, like an apple at a time and kept them in the freezer until I needed them.

I do both. When I am on vacation or if it is a weekend, I make it. If I am working, I use a jar. I don't feel guilty.

I make the majority of it, but always have jars on hand for times I don't have time, or run out of things, I don't feel guilty giving her the jars, she likes them just the same

I make it. I freeze it into cubes and then store in freezer bags in the freezer, it doesn't take up too much room. When I am out I'll use jarred food.

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
I picked other because I did both. I really enjoyed making DD's food and it saved me $$. It really didn't take up much space in my freezer. I also bought jars for when we were out or if I did not feel like defrosting the cubes.

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
Right now I make all his food. I make pretty large batches that I freeze so I am not cooking every week but like once a month. For bananas, I cut it with the skin on and send it to daycare. Only the top of the banana needs to be scraped off, the rest of it is fine.

Store bought.
I can barely keep up with the laundry, much less stand next to the food processor most days.
I do give DD fresh fruit chunks, fresh veggies, etc. so I feel it balances out.

jar! I cook enough for DH and I. To add another process is too much.

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
i make about 98% of what she eats but wouldnt feel guilty if i didnt..my main reason was that i had the time, and its MUCH cheaper to spend 90 bux on a TON of organic food, and spend one rainy afternoon cooking it ALL and freezing it, then having enough for 3 months, then it does to pay almost $1 each jar 3 times a day.. i also wanted to be aware of what i was putting into her mouth, since i feel i slacked alittle with ds and he does have a weight issue that im constantly trying to wacth out for.. i defrost on the go so itd ready when we need it, if i forget then i give a jar, or a yobaby..no biggie..i have nothing jarred in my house right now, but i usually have 2 or 3 just to have them in case.

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
So far mostly homemade, but I always have a few jars on hand for when we're going to be out of the house or if I need it in a pinch.

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
I origionally made ds his food, but when looking into it i found that atleast the fruits are actually fortified with vitamin C and i also found he didnt like the homemade as well.. PLUS in the winter it cost me a fortune... DS was at one point eating 7 jars a day so i opted for the more inexpensive method.... now that he is on table food i make everything myself

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
Well DS just started eating solids a month ago and I have been maing his food, and using jar foods for the foods that aren't in season. I do know what you mean about taking up space though. I don't feel gulity when giving him jar food, I always buy organic foods.

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
I used store bought but whenever DC #2 comes, I am going to make some. I didn't realize how easy it was until I started making some recipes using purees.

I was making for a bit, then started the jar foods. I prefer using the jars, more variety and I don't spend time in kitchen!

Re: Solids - Homemade or Store Bought? POLL
I made Chloe peaches once. It was fun and I would like to do it more often, but I have really limited space and supplies. I asked about the Beaba once on here, but I don't think anyone replied...
Anyway, i buy her Earth's Best or Happy Baby. She loves them.

I have it and LOVE it. I love that I dont need to figure out how much water and/or how long to cook stuff. Since it is small I just steam a few baskets at a time and then blend it all when I am done. I dont really have space to deal with a few bigger separate "things".

Thanks Jen! I wanted to make sure it was worth it before spending the dough. I really wanted to start making her pureed chicken, turkey etc.
Do you have the Beaba cubes too?

Wow, i'm surprised so many moms actually make their own baby food. I'm feeling inspired and may just try to make another batch again this weekend!
