Some advice for phone interviews
Just got off the phone with what seemed like a perfect candidate for a technical/sales position in my company.
I realize she was nervous but it wasn't a surprise that I was calling. She answered every question with exactly what I'd want to hear. I passed her up to the next round of interviews because of her experience & the content of her questions. She has the exact background we need. Only problem is this is a customer facing job & she said "um, ah..." about a thousand times.
So, here's the advice. When you are doing a phone interview...stop yourself before you say the word "um" or "ah" or any combination. Just stop for a split second until the next word comes to you. I would rather hear someone who chooses her/his words carefully than someone who needs the filler word.
I hope she interviews better for the next round.

Another tip - smile, and sit up straight. You will come across as much more enthusiastic and energetic. Just because the interviewer can't see you, doesn't mean you should be slouching on the couch in pj's!
