Some days I just really hate being supervisor

I apologize in advance if this is long. It's been a horrid day. I am attending my companies convention next week. In fact senior management has officially left me in charge of it I should be honored they have such faith in me but the only reason they really gave it to me is because they are running into a lot of problems in the planning and budget and basically just passing the buck

We are incredably short staffed. It's to a point we are all yelling at each other for no reason.

Today was the worst. At 10:30 I was in the call center managers office with the COO and had the CEO on speaker phone. We were trying to come up with a resolution and a damage control plan. On the call center floor in CS was just the manager and one other person. One lady was helping out another department and the person who works the night shift wasnt in yet. Well later in the day I had asked who that one person was to do something urgent. It was already 4:30 and 2 hours pass my normal lunch time. I felt sick and I needed to go eat something. She gave me an attitude and told me that it is my fault she did not get to take a break at 10:45. I left her at her desk and no one to cover the phones. Contined to tell me how she felt chained to her desk all day because I was not available then when I am available I give her orders to do something.

I reached my boiling point. I told her oh I am sorry next time senior management calls me into a meeting I'll check with you first if it is ok that I can attend and then tell them sorry I cant come in because you have to take a break. And dont dare go head to head with me on lunch and breaks because I have worked 10 hour days with absolutly no lunch or break so you are going head to head with the wrong person and at the wrong time.

I have truely reached my boiling point. In fact everyone who is attending the convention has reached their boiling points. They eliminated 4 staff members who were going so basically knocking down the staff going to 7. Of the 7 only 3 will be handling registration, help desk, and orders for 700 people. Plus we have to stuff 700 folders, goodie bags and put DVD's in their jewel cases all at the convention.

The last thing I need right now is lip from my staff. Then someone else had the nerve to tell me well a good supervisor makes sure all their staff is taken care of before they take care of themselves. I said ok so next time the CEO calls me directly I'll tell him sorry I cant talk to you because I have to let so and so take their scheduled lunch and I need to cover the phones.

I am literally to a point where I just dont care what rolls out of my mouth to my collegues.

Tomorrow is only going to be worse because I have to call people and tell them oh by the way the special shuttle we had arranged um well because we didnt reach our 250 contracted agreement it is now null and void so no private shuttle like we promised which would have provided you with a 1 hour commute. So you're now a regular joe shmoe on this shuttle who will be going on a 2 hour tour of houston before going to Galveston with a stop at a cafe, a supermarket and a gas station before reaching your hotel. And if your flight doesnt land till 5pm sorry your SIL because their wont be a shuttle for you that you have alrady paid $50 per person for as the last shuttle leaves at 4:30. Oh and did I mention that if you hit rush hour your 2 hour shuttle experience could turn into 3 maybe 4 hours.

So do you still want to be on the shuttle or would you like me to transfer you to the booking department so you can get a car rental?

Thank goodness it's only going to be 60 people out of the 700 that I need to call

Yikes! For an event planning standpoint, you have my deepest empathy. My CEO would be flipping out over the shuttle. Being so short staffed is the worst!

Thanks everyone. I really needed the that everything is going to go well. Our CEO is telling us to make arrangements with another company. Um it's a week before the opening of Mardi Gras what the heck will be available

I cant wait till this is all over
