Some Good Formula News and A Similac Sensitive Question...

So...I'm thrilled to say that after a week of weaning Jordan off the Elecare, he had his first full day of Similac ONLY bottles today!!! The kid could not get enough of it!! As some of you know, we've had problems with Jordan BARELY drinking while he was on Elecare - some really bad days - he would drink 14 oz for the entire day - at 10 months old!!
He drank 28.5 oz today - he was literally shoving the bottle in his mouth and sucking it down in 5 minutes!!
I feel badly, like we've been starving the poor kid, but I'm so happy about this! I'm still going to put some oatmeal in the bottle because I feel he needs to be filled up more. I just hope this isn't a honeymoon period with the Similac and that he'll be up to his old tricks soon!

Now for my question, I forgot how foamy Similac Sensitive isChat Icon Any hints for how to cut down on the foam - I feel like we need to start using Mylicon again because he was burping so much after the bottle because he had so many bubbles in the bottle! I remember that when I used to put Mylicon in the bottle, it would cut the foam out a bit, but any tried and true tricks?

Thanks!

You can either put the mylicon drops in or make a pitcher of formula ahead of time to give all the bubbles time to go away.

Glad to hear he is doing good on the Similac. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Are you using powder? Like pp said, make the formula ahead of time.

There are some tips on the Similac website as to how to mix it. On BRU.com someone suggested in comments to mix it with a whisk.

DS was on Gentlease beforehand and we had to use mylicon with the Simliac as well - he was mega gassy (and we switched to the one for gas!)

I was thinking of the pitcher, but with roughly 5 weeks left before he starts weaning off the formula to go to milk (as per GI at one year,) I don't really feel buying the Dr. Brown's pitcher!Chat Icon I guess it's cheaper to buy the MyliconChat Icon

ETA - we do also have a formula mixer - might have to break that out again!

If you are adding the powder to the bottle itself, don't shake the bottle to mix. I use a butter knife & stir until all of the powder is mixed into the water.

I made DS bottles in a blender..amount of water, # of scoops, blend and then I would let it sit for a few min. pour into bottles and by the time we would need to use it, it was settled and no bubbles.

We have this little blender by Munchkin and it is awesome!! Maybe try this, because it mixes it great and causes no bubbles. They sell at BBB and BRU

Thanks, Mich!

Bari - we have one of those mixers - I'll try it again! I asked our babysitter to try the butterknife trick first this morning - we'll also put in a little Mylicon and see what happens.

BTW - he was up at 2:48 a.m. Chat Icon I was kind of scared this would happen. Not sure if he was hungry or gassy from the bottlesChat Icon

Yes, it works great for me. Stir gently.

Bari - We use the Ventaires.

Dani - just spoke with the babysitter and she said she made it a bit ahead of time so it had time to settle and said the knife worked just fine :) - very small amount of foam.

Jess, that's so kind of you and I appreciate it! I'm in FL right now though. Was supposed to come up to LB next Friday, but looks like that's not going to happen. Grrrr.

Thanks anyway!
