Some people are utterly stupid! Or am I sensitive?
I was swimming today when a woman and her son (about 4 years old) went into the pool. At one point she got close to where it gets deeper and even said 'OH! Too deep for me!' Within a few minutes I look up to see both her and her son UNDERWATER!!!!!!!! I saw their frantic eyes while trying to get to the surface. I swam over and got them.
She then decided it would be best if she put him on a noodle. While he's bopping around she decides to start swimming away from him, head underwater, not looking at him. She went about 15 feet and stopped as she wasn't a strong swimmer. Then she proceeded to keep on swimming away from her son. Granted, she didn't do it too much. But the times she did it, I was scared that the boy would fall off the noodle and she wouldn't know it. It's not like it was only 5-10 seconds she wasn't watching him, more like a minute at a time.
Am I too sensitive? Would you leave your 4 year old (that can't swim) on a noodle out of your eyesight for a minute at a time, especially after having to be saved once already?

You're not overly sensitive, you're just "in touch" with reality. That other woman was not.

What she said!!!
Drowning is one of my biggest fears. I am a very strong swimmer, and learned when I was around 2. I would love to have Cailen take lessons when we can afford it, but even so, he will never be out of arm's reach from me. He could be Michael Phelps at age 4 for all I care. He's my baby and I will always be within reach.
In the bath, I will reach behind me for his towel - never taking my eyes off him.....

I would not leave my 4 year old son who COULD swim for that long. a few seconds is all it takes.... Sometimes I really wonder what's wrong with people.
