Why am I so sensitive to people's stupid comments about DD?

I must just be an overly senstive mom but two people made comments about DD's eating habits and size and it made meChat Icon and Chat Icon

First I was talking to DH's friend and telling her how cute it was that DD passes food back to DH when he feeds her, like she wants to feed him, too. She said "oh, a picky eater already?"

Then I brought DD to DH's office and one of his coworkers commented about how "they really slim down after they start walking. She lost all her baby fat. Even her face thinned out"

I feel like this horrible mother now. And people think my baby is picky and got skinny. Chat Icon

Ugggh I hate it when people make stupid comments about our DC's...Chat Icon

Just ignore them because they are not worth your time even thinking about what they said.

And please don't make these morons make you feel like a horrible mother because you are not a horrible mother.

Really people don't realize what impact their words can have. I don't think anything was meant by it.

I just take everything with a grain of salt since having DD. Try not to let it bother you!Chat Icon

i can understand, I'm the same way sometimes. I'd venture to say that some people just don't realize to chose their words carefully or sometimes just not say anything at all. You're doing great, try your best to ignore it!!!

Please let it go in one ear and out the other - I hate comments from other people...especially when it is from family - but I do not let it bother me anymore - the only comment I would take to heart is from her doctor.

Our little guy is a little guy. He's never been one of those chubby Gerber babies. He's a cutie monster but people have said things to me.

I was in the doctor's office this Summer for his 18 month appointment and a mother there asked me how old he was. When I told her she said "oh my he's so small, I don't think my kids were every that small".....what the heck does that meanChat Icon

He's healthy and happy and when people make comments - which they always will. Seriously, don't pay them any mind.

Funny thing is she is not small. She was 22 lbs and 31 inches at 9 months. I don't think she slimmed down that much in the past 2.5 months. I still see full cheeks.Chat Icon

Juliet your daughter is absolutely gorgeous - don't let stupid people who don't know you or your daughter make comments that just aren't true. What does feeding your DH have anything to do with being pickyChat Icon Your daughter from your avatar looks beautiful and very healthy - and that is what matters not what some silly person has to say. I will say that I think we all take comments to heart when we shouldn't

I wouldn't worry about any of it. Clearly thse people didn't mean any harm. I think you need to have a little more self confidence about the job your doing as a mother. DD is beautiful and healthy. These comments in no way reflect your parenting or your child.

And honestly, I don't think the comments were too offensive. I was just talking to someone about how DD slimmed down when she started walking. She is by no means skinny, but she slimmed down. Also, the picky eater comment- its stupid, but let it go. It wasn't mean. People just "comment". What can you do?

People say random stuff, Jules. It can be very annoying and it's easier said than down to ignore itChat Icon

I've had people ask if I am concerned that DS is small for his age. I really gets to me, too!

Re: Why am I so sensitive to people's stupid comments about DD?

I wish I wasn't so sensitiveChat Icon I know the comments are stupid but I don't want someone thinking I don't care for my child/starve her

And I don't want someone thinking I have a picky, difficult eater just because she doesn't stuff every piece of food in her mouth as soon as it is handed to her. She has learned to share by handing food to DH when he hands it her. She eventually eats it, but she wants to share. She gives it to him and smilesChat Icon

The first comment makes no sense (so ignore it), and the second comment doesn't seem even remotely negative to me (I recently made a similar comment to my friend - babies DO lose some baby chunkiness when they start walking -- it's a GOOD thing Chat Icon).
