some people REALLY know how to say "thank you"
My parents' boiler broke and it took SIX days before they could get it replaced. They stayed at a hotel for a few nights, despite the fact that I told them they were free to stay with us. (Insurance paid for the hotel and they thought it would be nice to stay out for a few nights.)
Sunday, they did stay with us. They spent the whole day and stayed over. We had lunch and dinner for them and had a nice day. NO big deal at all.
Monday the boiler was replaced. My mom stayed at our house during the day (dad was at work) b/c her house was so cold.
When I got home from work that night, there was a huge pot of homemade soup and a big loaf of fresh bread for me and DH for dinner, along with a thank you note. (And she left the kitchen spotless, BTW!)
My mom knows we work crazy hours and the soup is at LEAST two nights of dinner for us. Totally not necessary, but VERY much appreciated!

Vegetable beef. Sooo good. It was my grandmother's recipe! Plus, the bread she left was delicious, too!

 Plus, since I wouldn't let them buy us dinner (b/c I had stuff), they also went out and bought us dessert on Sunday night. They're too much.
A few weeks ago, we went over for dinner on a Sunday. My mom tells me when we got there that she made us a big pot of stew to take home so we didn't have to cook one or two nights during the week. She's just really thoughtful. DH and I are working really, really insane hours these days (I have three HUGE trials this year and DH not only works long hours, but also is a PT MBA student AND is studying for her PE exam)... I can't tell you how much one or two nights off from cooking really means.
