Some questions about flying (alone) with a 1yr old.....
...Its a short flight, so he will be on my lap....I am going to try to pack as efficiently as possible as it will just be me & DS. The carseat will already be in my parents car when we arrive. So, my questions are: 1. Should I bring & gate check a lightweight/cheap stroller (and can you recommend one ) OR should I put him in my Beco carrier and forget the stroller all together (I could always buy a cheap stroller once we are there) 2. Can someone explain the milk policy in the airport 3. Any other words of advice? Thanks so much! This is my first flight with DS

That thing is only approved for use during cruise portiion of the flight. You can't use it during take off and landing.
Milk IS allowed through security.
If you have a very $$$ stroller I'd get either a cover for it, or use a cheap umbrella as they can get pretty beat up. That said, I always used my Graco as a luggage cart. You'll gate check the stroller at the airplane door and it will be brought to you in the jetway at your final stop.

Re: Some questions about flying (alone) with a 1yr old.....
definitely bring a stroller. it is sooo much easier to get through the airport (it's a long walk!!) with a child in a stroller, IMO. check it at the gate. we've brought our Pliko 3 on the plane many times without a cover and never had a problem. Plus, you can hold your carry on bags on the handles.
ETA: bring the Beco carrier in your carry on bag in case he gets cranky in the stroller in the airport. You never know about delays- I like to overprepare!
good luck!

Re: Some questions about flying (alone) with a 1yr old.....
I've flown 4 times with my DD (she will be 8 months old tomorrow). And I strongly suggest you have the stroller. As other posters said, you can hang your diaper bag on the handles so one less thing to carry! It also helps if there are delays or anything, your child can then sleep or just sit in the stroller. You wouldn't want to get stuck carrying your DS for hours! And I always have my Baby Bjorn in case, but haven't needed it yet. And you can bring baby bottles with milk or formula through security. Just declare it before it slides through the security screener.

I didnt even realize there was a law for take off and landing (believe it or not). We just back from Fl and while I did use her car seat, if I didnt have it and she was on the plane she would have needed to be buckled in??? That would have been a real PITA!

bring your stroller with you.
I was delayed for hours once, it would have been a nightmare to be chasing him around the whole time.
It also makes peeing easier.

Re: Some questions about flying (alone) with a 1yr old.....
I have always brought a stroller when flying with DD...I brought the Quattro tour the first time and learned my lesson...bring the umbrella stroller...I also just purchased a bag in which to put the stroller when you gate check it.
I would say take your DC out of the stroller and put it in the bag BEFORE they start boarding...that way you can tag the bag, drop it and get right on the plane...

Children under 2 CAN sit on a lap, outside thecseatbelt (your arms act as the seatbelt). I have to be honest- it's not a safe way for children to fly.
At 2, they have to be in their own seat, so I always recommend a carseat. Boosters, BTW are also not approved for take off and landing.
