Someone just called my house looking for my Brother

I don't know what to make of this

Jake took the call- it was before 9am

he gave us no info- just that he was looking my brother and wanted us to have him call him

does this sound like a bill collector?

the name sounds fake, he wouldn't say what it's in refernce to (I thought bill collectors did- I know my brother is behind on his mortgage- but they should know where to find him right?)

my brother doesn't live in NY- and hasn't for 5 years - so I am confused about why this person is calling me, how they found me- how they know we are related- our last name is common (I use my madien name still) and I have moved 7 times since I lived in my parents house

I am little unsettled about this....

It sounds like a bill collector. If he used your name as a reference and he is behind they can call you and try to have him call them. This happened to me when I was having Student Loan difficulties...they called two of my friends

Sounds like a debt collector. Have you ever co-signed something for him? Or maybe he's put you down on something. Who knows. But my guess is he owes someone money, and they're trying to get it from him any way they can.

I have never co-signed anything for him

we have never lived in the same state really - when he was old enough to buy

and he doesn't know my house phone number- no one in family really does

everyone calls my cell

Def a bill collector. I have one calling my house for my Mom and they did the same exact thing. He must have listed you as a reference for some loan he took out.

If he calls again, I'd tell him he's harassing you. Can you get info on the guy from the phone # he left and have law enforcement tell him to leave you alone? (I'm guessing no since he only called once, but...).

I would say bill collector too. I just watched the movie "Maxed Out" this past weekend - about credit card debt and the financial industry.

They interviewed these guys who run a collections agency and they said straight out that they will call anyone they can who knows the debtor to get them to pay - family, neighbors, anyone they think will embarrass the person enough to pay.

I have had someone call my house when I was single looking for a family member with the same name and I just said no one by that name lives at this address and hung up.

Happened to my brother too....they called OUR neighbor looking for him and said, give him this message.

They find ways to find ppl, any tie.

Even for my DH, something happened, they called our SIL inlaws in JERSEY looking for my DH.

Crazy!

Call your brother and give him the message tell him you expect a gift on secretary's day!!

It sounds like a bill collector.

The same thing happened to me with my sister. The collector called my cell phone and I had changed my name.

I got the collector's name/number and gave it to my sister. I haven't heard from them since, so I'm hoping she settled her debt.

I doubt he is going to call- so I think that means I will be getting more early morning calls

we didn't give the guy my brothers number

but he must be not answering his phone b/c his mortgage company has to be calling 3 times a day as this point

he is very behind... oy

when they call again tell them you have no idea where your brother is and to stop harassing you.

They have no business calling you and it's harassment.

Sounds like a bill collector. It seems to be the new thing now. I had this happen recently. They said I showed up as a relative of this person and they were trying to contact her and thought I could have this person contact them about a "legal matter" I didn't know this person though.

But I did go online to file a complaint about this company, because even after I told them I did not know this person, they continued to call multiple times per day. I found that it seems to be common practice that they call relatives (and unrelentlessly sometimes) in an effort to reach the person that owes money.

It definitely sounds like a bill collector.

I get calls here every once in a while looking for one of my family members who I haven't lived with for many years now. We don't even have the same last name anymore. If the person they're looking for constantly ignores the bill collectors calls, they will try and get in touch with anyone who is related/knows the person to get in touch with them. That's most likely what's going on here. And they never say where they're calling from, at least in my case they don't.

def sounds like a debt collector, I would say you have the wrong #, don't tell them you know him or they will call you constantly!!!
And it is the truth, that is NOT his phone #.

Sounds like a bill collector. If you go to zabasearch.com, it will list relatives of the person they are searching for. Then if they searched your name and got your number, that's how they could get you to reach him.

Also there are websites that show possible relatives/roommates so I'm sure they're just trying to track him down.

Definitely sounds like a bill collector. When I was in college someone must have had the same last name at my school - b.c I got some calls about bills from joining something I hadn't joined. They insisted the person must be living at our address - but the person they were looking for had given a different 1st name, soc #, address, and phone. I gave them none of my info. I have no idea how they called me b.c they were calling my parents house and asked for me - and their number was unlisted.

on a serious note, if they call again, I would tell them NOT to call again. and I would give my brother an enema...with my foot.

there is something called skip tracing that bill collectors do. I dont know the details but when I was a credit analyst we would hear about our collections dept doing this.

There are systems that can look up ridiculous info, like your next door neighbors phone #s, etc, so it could be something along the lines of that

I might be the only one who thinks maybe otherwise- I assume you and your brother lived under the same roof at some point and maybe that's why.

I once looked up my name on Zabasearch, and I was listed at my DH's old addy, even though I never lived there. He had a roommate at that address, and now he's listed at our current address. We get calls for him from time to time- telemarketers- and mail too, credit card solicitations. I really doubt it's a bill collector as this friend has not even lived in America for five or six years.

Just another possibility, albeit unlikely.
