Something is wrong with either my electric or DR chandelier
I have a big 2 tier iron chandelier with 12 lights in my DR. When I leave the light on for awhile the light switch plate on the wall gets hot. I just went to turn the light off and the light blew. This happened in december too. It is weird, the light bulbs dont blow out, but we had to replace the switch plate. Now we are going to have to do it again. I don't know if there is something wrong with the electric or if the light is too big or requires too much energy for the electric. Anyone ever have this problem before? I would hate to have to replace my chandelier for a smaller one b/c I love it but I have a feeling the chandelier with the 12 lights requires too much power.

I would not use the light until I had an electrician check it out asap.
I once had a ceiling fixture replaced with a ceiling fan and while the electrician was in the attic he noticed a "hot spot", well, the wires were arcing, meaning there was an exposed jump of current between the connecting wires It was only a matter of time before a fire started.
If the dininingroom is on it's own circuit, I would switch it off at the breaker box until the electrician can come so no power is being delivred to that fixture or room.
I don't mean to alarm you, I'm just overly cautious after my own experience.

My uncle is an electrician. I am going to see if he can come out and take a look. I was reading online and he problem could be that I need to get a dimmer switch that support 1000 watts.

Yep sounds like the dimmer switch cannot handle the load. I had that happen in my kitchen.

I had this problem also. I replaced the dimmer switch with one that handles more power. Never had a problem since.

Re: Something is wrong with either my electric or DR chandelier
Thanks. My dad is coming over tomorrow to help DH change some of our switches. Hopefully that is all it is.
