Oh man...I don't know what I did but I think I deleted my post. Opps!
Yeah, I know! Amazing grace is another one I like too. Its really sad to hear on the bagpipes but in a beautiful, weird kind of way

Re: Song for a wake/funeral - the morbid question of the day
I wish more people would personalize funerals with special song selections!!
It's so strange, but when I hear a song that has been played at a funeral that I directed, I can rememeber that person & their family. I always think of a womens mother especially when I hear Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful". She commited suicide in her mom's house & battled depression...........such a sad funeral.........
The same goes for songs played at family or friends funerals. "Nancy" by Frank Sinatra was played for my Grandma and accidentally they kept the CD going & the "New York, New York" song came on!! We all went from to !!! SO both songs make me smile now!!
Sorry for the tangent!! For me, I would love "Spirit in the Sky" played!!!
I would probably choose "Stairway to Heaven" for DH because he is a HUGE Led Zep fan!

Re: Song for a wake/funeral - the morbid question of the day
ok I thought about this all day now.
At the church On Eagles Wings must be played.
At the wake or memorial or after party (hey, I'm irish..people better go out and eat and drink after!) Nat King Cole's Smile: Smile though your heart is aching Smile even though its breaking When there are clouds in the sky, youll get by If you smile through your fear and sorrow Smile and maybe tomorrow Youll see the sun come shining through for you
Light up your face with gladness Hide every trace of sadness Although a tear may be ever so near Thats the time you must keep on trying Smile, whats the use of crying? Youll find that life is still worthwhile If you just smile

Re: Song for a wake/funeral - the morbid question of the day
I have not thought about music but I was at a wake a few days ago and the place looked like a floral design studio. I have decided that I want people to send donations in lieu of flowers. Now I totally understand why so many people ask that no flowers be sent.
What on earth is the family to do with 100+ HUGE floral arrangments I can imagine keeping a few of them at the house but 100+

Re: Song for a wake/funeral - the morbid question of the day
My only stipulation so far is that I be cremated...
Don't know about music, I haven't ever really given it much thought. I'm not sure I could pick a song to sum up my life when there's (hopefully) so much more of it to go - I just imagine that when I do die, my life will be much different then it is now - the people who will know my best will most likely be my future children, etc whereas now it's my parents and husband...
But then again, maybe some songs always apply - Isn't She Lovely?

interesting...my DH knows that I absolutely wouldn't want that song or the other one (I am the bread of life, maybe?) I bawl just about every time I hear those songs because I feel like I'm at a funeral.
ETA: Now I have "How Great Thou Art" stuck in my head...

OMG!! Everytime I hear ON Eagles Wings I cry hysterically! It reminds me of every Catholic funeral I have attended including my grandfather's when I was in 8th grade.

At my mom's funeral On Eagles Wings was played and I lost it so I would probably want that played at mine.
