and the only other thing you need to consider is:
it's nice to think that the people who matter most will be the ones to attend your wedding. In reality, with holiday plans, and work schedules, may make it impossible for some, especially on such short notice. That doesn't mean that they are any LESS important, it may just be the circumstances.
The bottom line is, be ready for someone who you REALLY want there, to not be able to make it. Not your fault, it's your day. Not their fault either. Just the way things work out.

I appreciate all the honest (yet NICE) answers - I was afraid this was gonna get ugly!
I'm really on the fence here- Maybe we'll do Friday, take a really short weekend away (maybe a B&B or NYC), then do our planned Hawaii in December...
hmmmmmmm

I HONESTLY think if you send save the dates way in advance, if someone wants to come they can plan their holiday preperations accordingly and be there!

I think it sounds like a good idea. You have plenty of time to send a save the date to let your guests know about it...I would just send it far in advance.

This can happen regardless of when your wedding is...the day before a holiday or a random Saturday evening.

What did your parents say?
The only thing I see is, will your guests have OOT guests at their home that will not be invited to wedding? It is just a couple of hours in the night, so I would not mind leaving guests on their own for a wedding. But others might?

sorry, another question. Are you set on a Novemeber wedding? If you decide not to do it on Wed. night, rather then on Friday, maybe move it to Friday in Dec. right before Christmas break?

then I would do the STD's for Wednesday. One thing I would not do is ask anyone's opinions(attendees). If they have a problem they will let you know. Just don't leave the door open or plant seeds in anyone's head.

I think it's a great idea! It's nice becasue most people will have off the next day, so they can enjoy themselves at the party . And it's nice for you two because then you can have some time to yourselves after the reception!
i say go for it!

Bottom line...do what YOU want to do.
I persoanlly went to a wedding on Mother's day and was a little annoyed. PLUS it was really far for me. On that Wed. I would have to take off plus it would be a pain for me...BUT it's about the person getting married and how much you like them.
I got married in July and I heard the SAME comments...people are away...it's too hot...I didn't care...the people I WANTED there came...those who didn't saved me a lot of $$$$$!!!

Re: Sorry, wedding related, but I'd prefer YOUR opinions over LIW...
We took a delayed hm b/c my DH was in school full time getting his MBA. So, we were married in Sept and took our HM in Dec during his break. It was great! We loved having something else to look forward to for a few months after the wedding was over.
I think that Wed before Thanksgiving is a difficult day. I'd prefer to go to a wedding on the Fri or Sat and then you can take a delayed HM.

I think that day is kinda hard. A LOT of people are preparing to have a lot of company over or preparing food. IMO that is the biggest issue on that wed.

I would be at the Wednesday reception. Like other posters said, depends on the family. A lot of people will be traveling that day anyway. Maybe your guests can come in Tues. night.

honestly, this is what I learned: the people who WANT to be at your wedding WILL be at your wedding. (barring illness or an emergency).

I do not see the problem with it really. Some people might be annoyed because they are trying to prepare for Thanksgiving dinner, but if they want to be there they will make sure they can be.

I understand. I just know that there is another bride out there who made the decision to have her wedding that day and may have some words of advice if this is the day you choose. And like other people are saying: If they want to be there, they'll be there! Personally, I wouldn't want to travel by plane to go to a wedding that day. Too risky in terms of flight delays and what nots. But if it were in state and drivable, I'd go! Good luck!

i agree. our families usually do alot of the cooking the day before (desserts, pie, side dishes, etc)... and also start the turkey at like 6am (or earlier). For you immediate families, it would be fine, b/c the holiday will take a backseat to the wedding, anyway, and you'll have your 'thanksgiving' at your wedding But, for the other 100-200 people, its going to be rough.
Another thing though that Really stands out in my mind is that the Wednesday night before Thanksgiving is the BUSIEST ight for bars... and while we would love to assume that most people use common sense and have a designated driver, we all know that thats Not always the case. and i would worry about my friends and family on the road that night (as i do every year )
