Re: sorry...its wedding related
I just got invited to a wedding in L.A. and we have to respond with our meal choice. Apparently it is popular outside of NY.

Re: sorry...its wedding related
It seems to be the norm outside the immediate NY area. I don't mind it.

Re: sorry...its wedding related
I don't think this is strange at all, but I grew up in CT. Outside of NY many places ask you to tell them beforehand. Every wedding I have been to in CT, MA, RI, etc of college friends I have had to choose. In fact, when we got married in NY people kept asking me why they didn't have to choose. I love that here we didn't have to, but not so common in other areas.

For out of the tri-state area, I would say it's completely the norm.
Yes, it 100% in most of the rest of the country.
The last wedding we went to down in FL there was no choice, everyone was served the same.

This is the norm outside of the Ny metro area.
Your choice is not set in stone and I can almost guarantee you that you will be asked the night of the wedding what you would like to eat. I believe this is just a way for them to get an idea of how much chicken, fish, and steak or have on hand.

What do you do if you are a vegetarian... Usually when there are no choices at a wedding for me-- I ask for a vegetarian plate and they accomodate-- I guess you can write it on the card-- but, I think that would be weird to do that.

DH and I just recieved the invitation to his cousin's wedding. The response card listed the 3 meal options and asked us to choose one. The opitions were sword fish, herb crusted chicken and prime rib.
Do you think that its strange to ask people to choose their meals 2 and 1/2 months in advance?
Alot of times they will do this to avoid having dancing/partying time taken away just to order dinner. The cards will coordinate with the place seating chart.

I would totally write it on the card.

Re: sorry...its wedding related
This is very common outside of NY. It's easier for the catering hall b/c they know exactly how much of each type of food to order. I'm not sure if they order extra so you might not be able to switch your meal that day. I wouldn't worry about remembering what you chose as your meal. I've been to ones where our menu choice was either written on our place card or a sticker (fish, cow, etc) was put on the place card.

Re: sorry...its wedding related
I guess that we are the strange ones...since the rest of the country seems to do this.
I guess once we openly tell the rest of the family that I am pregnant...I will talk to DH's cousin and ask her if its alright to change last minute...if I need to because of MS.

Re: sorry...its wedding related
I've seen it at a lot of out of state weddings. You can choose to do it here too, I think it makes is cheaper because the catering hall has to order less food.
I HATE it. I don't know what I'm going to want to eat in July.

That is so true! My ex-fiancee was from PA, and his mother was shocked to find out that you didnt pick your meal that far in advance and that there is an open bar included
