Sort-of spinoff from the celebrity board - if a child is not cute

do you ever lie and say that they are?

This is in reference the post about Honor.

I find that often on Facebook or even in person, some of my friends have kids who aren't necessarily cute.

Do you lie and say the kid is cute?

I won't. I will comment if they have pretty eyes or hair or smile, or seem like they have a great personality, but I will never say "oh, (s)he is so cute!". I try to find something positive to compliment.

and then I feel really bad about it. But I just can't bring myself to say a kid is cute if I don't think they are.

And that's not to say that I expect people to think my kids are the cutest.

In fact, my DD is little funny looking in person but photographs well. People always say to me "oh she looks so different in person that in pictures!", which DH and I think is a veiled way of saying "whoa! she's not that cute in person!" and truthfully, it doesn't hurt my feelings in any way.

I would never call a kid ugly. I just won't like and say they are cute when they are not.

I won't gush and say the kid is gorgeous or anything like that 1. b/c I'm a terrible liar, and 2. b/c I'm not much of a phony - - but I will always compliment something about someone's child - If it's a FB photo or something, no, I just refrain from commenting at all - - but in person, I will always find something nice to say about a kid -

It may not be "OMG she's so adorable" it may be, "she has such gorgeous hair/eyes" or "She has a perfect nose" or "She's the sweetist kid ever" or whatever ..........

Yes, there are some kids who aren't prototypical Gerber babies. Some are just, well, not finished yet, kwim?

So I wouldn't fake "gush" (that's just not my personality).
But by the same token I won't hold up their stuffed Curious George doll to their face and say "See what I'm talkin' about????"

I think that all kids are "cute" in some way. funky smile, weird dimple, aborable hair, big baldy head.

they are not all pretty or gorgeous or beautiful. but that is life.

cute and adorable encompass more than just a picture perfect face for me. for *ME* it's impossible not to see something cute or adorable in a baby's face, even if they are not "pretty" or overly "attractive"

I'll lie. But I honestly cant say I know any ugly babies.

I thought Charlie was funny looking and told the nurses at the hospital. They thought I was crazy But she was mine so I was ok saying it lol

What about the opposite scenario? Not babies but have you ever seen a toddler/preschooler/tween who is STRIKINGLY good looking??? Boy or girl doesn't matter... I'll always end up saying "OMG you better watch out he/she is SO GOOD LOOKING". Then I feel like a big old creepster for the way it came out

I think a baby always has something cute about them so I mention what I do think is adorable - but no, IMO not every baby is cute.

This reminds me of a college conversation regarding a girl that had a great personality & was a good dancer.

Although... now I'm wondering how many of you ladies have complimented a FEATURE of DS's instead of just saying he's cute...hmmmmmmmmm.

I feel like this about some of the kids on this site.

I seriously cannot get over how beautiful that girl is!!!

Every.single.picture.

It's like she is a mini-celebrity I recognize when the photogs on this site put her on their blog/website.

Now that didn't come out stalkerish, did it?

See we are thinking the same way!!! She is a STUNNER. Same for Palebride's Lily (sorry babe!!!). Aliwnec's Jayson... so many others! And just random kids on the street sometimes!!!

I cant lie So I will complement something along the lines of OHHHHHHHH he looks just like daddy or my gooness she/he has the prettiest hair or some feature.

People tell me all the time that my DDs are gorgeous and I love it but take it with a grain of salt and realize that not everyone will feel that way and thats ok cause to me they are perfect.

I am the same way. I may compliment the outfit or something like that. I just can't be fake and gush.

same - and there's ALWAYS something cute about a child, whether its the nose, eyes, hair, or as a last resort, outfit.

There is always something cute about a child...always! I would always tell someone their child is cute! Always!
