I think that all kids are "cute" in some way. funky smile, weird dimple, aborable hair, big baldy head.
they are not all pretty or gorgeous or beautiful. but that is life.
cute and adorable encompass more than just a picture perfect face for me. for *ME* it's impossible not to see something cute or adorable in a baby's face, even if they are not "pretty" or overly "attractive"
totally agree! i've never seen a baby or kid and thought wow that kid isnt cute- there is always something- even if its just how little their hands are

I think the differences make kids really gorgeous.
Mine is no gerber baby... But to me he is the world and other peoples kids don't compare.

I could always tell when my mom and aunts didn't think a baby was cute.
For cute babies they would gush about how adorable they were.
For the ones they thought were not cute they would say "God Bless Him/Her"

I tend to think most babies have something cute about them.
However...my friends sister was supposedly the most awful looking baby. The sister actually said "Oh no, its ok...I was one hell of an ugly child". She had dark hair all over her face and arms, and a pushed in nose...they called her "monkey" (i know, mean..).
She is the 4th child in her family of all girls...and her sisters were cute. They laugh about how the mom cried when she saw her and a relative commented "OH GOD!" and stepped back when she first saw her..
At least they can all laugh about it now, but i always feel bad when they talk about it. Unfortunately the looks didn't change much...and they still call her monkey sometimes!!

I can't lie-- so I do as others do and find something to compliment. BUT, I also agree that every child has something that is cute about them.
I mean, they're little people. That, in itself, is cute.

Alex was an UGLY baby- I always knew people were lying through their teeth when they said she's sooo cute! I was always able to weed out the honest ones who commented instead on her hilarious laugh and personality 
Thank goodness she grew into her looks

There is always something cute about a child...always! I would always tell someone their child is cute! Always!
Same here.
And I recognized Tine's DD in a photo in my OB/gyn's office. She IS a celebrity!

What about the opposite scenario? Not babies but have you ever seen a toddler/preschooler/tween who is STRIKINGLY good looking??? Boy or girl doesn't matter... I'm a terrible liar....terrible! But I always find something nice to say about babies....because they're babies....in that, in itself, makes them cute!! Those teeny little fingers, that cute little button nose, the little gas smile, or giggle....I love it all!
(darn....I think I need another kid now)

I've worked with children that have had cleft paletes, children who had serious burns covering most of their body/face, children with severe physical disabilities and there was always something "cute" about them. I've also worked with physically beautiful children who were soooo oppositional and have such horrible behaviors that I had a really hard time viewing them as "cute".
